Arnold Clark’s Ultra-Rapid Charging Network Now Public

Welcome, Net Zero News readers,

In a significant stride towards enhancing the electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure across the UK, Arnold Clark Charge has officially opened its ultra-rapid EV charging network to the public. As one of the largest car dealers in the country, Arnold Clark is making waves in the EV landscape with this initiative, backed by a robust £30 million investment aimed at promoting sustainable transport solutions.

With over 50 charging hubs already operational throughout the UK, Arnold Clark Charge aims to address the growing demand for accessible and efficient charging facilities as electric vehicles gain popularity. The network was launched last year, and it’s clear that the commitment to expanding this service is already bearing fruit, with plans to introduce even more locations by the end of the year.

Each Arnold Clark branch will host up to eight rapid chargers, each capable of delivering an impressive charging speed of up to 150kW. This means that EV owners can enjoy a swift and convenient charging experience, allowing them to get back on the road faster. In terms of pricing, the ultra-rapid charging rates are set at an attractive 55p per kWh, significantly lower than the average rate of 81p per kWh on other networks, as reported by Zapmap.

Convenience is at the heart of the Arnold Clark Charge experience. Payment for charging can be seamlessly processed through the Arnold Clark app, or via contactless payment methods, including roaming cards and apps. The company has partnered with industry leaders such as Allstar Business Solutions, Zap-Pay, Octopus Electroverse, and Plugsurfing to ensure flexible and accessible payment options for all users.

The charging bays at Arnold Clark branches are designed to cater to both app users and Pay & Go customers, ensuring that everyone can benefit from this innovative service. Moreover, chargers can still be booked via the app, with most locations offering 24/7 access, making it easier than ever for EV owners to find suitable charging solutions whenever they need them.

Speaking on the launch, Russell Borrie, Chief Executive of Arnold Clark, emphasised the importance of keeping pace with the increasing popularity of electric vehicles. He stated, “With electric vehicles becoming increasingly popular, it’s essential that our charging infrastructure keeps pace with rising demand. That’s why we’ve made significant investments in our own UK-wide, bookable ultra-rapid charging network, Arnold Clark Charge. These new charging hubs are designed to provide the public with convenient, reliable, and cost-effective charging solutions while they’re on the move.”

For those interested in utilising the Arnold Clark Charge network, the process is straightforward. Members of the public can download the Arnold Clark app, create an account, and sign up for the Arnold Clark Charge service. This allows users to book a charge at a time and location that suits their needs, providing both flexibility and convenience.

In addition to the ultra-rapid charging network, Arnold Clark has partnered with Bumblebee, a home charge point installer, to offer customers an extensive range of home charging options. These options feature the latest technology and attractive offers, ensuring that EV owners can charge their vehicles efficiently at home as well. Furthermore, customers can visit one of Arnold Clark’s Electric Innovation Centres located in Glasgow or Stafford. Here, they can meet a team of experts specialising in alternatively fuelled vehicles, receive charging advice, learn about electric vehicles, and gain valuable driving tips. For those who prefer online resources, information is also readily available on the firm’s Electric Hub online platform.

The launch of Arnold Clark Charge represents a significant development in the UK’s EV infrastructure, aligning with broader goals of achieving net zero emissions and supporting the transition to cleaner transportation. As more drivers shift towards electric vehicles, the establishment of effective charging networks is paramount, not just for the convenience of EV users, but also for the acceleration of the electric vehicle market as a whole.

As we move forward, it is essential for companies and governments alike to continue investing in and expanding charging infrastructure to ensure that electric vehicles can thrive. Initiatives like Arnold Clark Charge provide a clear blueprint for how the automotive industry can adapt to the demands of a changing world, making electric vehicles a more viable option for everyone.

In conclusion, the launch of Arnold Clark Charge is not just about providing charging points; it’s about fostering a culture of sustainability and innovation within the automotive sector. As we continue to navigate the challenges of climate change and work towards a net zero future, initiatives such as this will play a crucial role in shaping the transportation landscape of tomorrow.
