Rightcharge, Cord Power Unveil EV Retrofit Funding for Net-Zero

Welcome to Net Zero News, where we bring you the latest developments driving the UK’s transition to a net-zero future. Today we report on a new collaboration set to accelerate the roll-out of electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure across the country.
In a significant step towards the UK’s net-zero goals, London-based EV charging payment platform Rightcharge has announced a strategic partnership with sustainable mobility solutions firm Cord Power Technologies. The agreement, unveiled on 12 November 2025, will see the two companies integrate their technologies to deliver seamless payment and management services at a growing network of public and private charging points.
Rightcharge, which provides a white-label payment gateway for EV chargepoint operators, will combine its software with Cord Power Technologies’ expertise in renewable energy integration and hardware design. Net Zero News understands this forms part of a broader strategy to simplify the charging experience and support ambitious charging capacity targets set by the UK government.
The partnership follows Rightcharge’s recent success in securing a Payment Services Directive licence, enabling it to handle transactions across multiple charging networks. Cord Power Technologies, already active in deploying solar canopies and battery storage at charge sites, will now incorporate Rightcharge’s back-end platform, offering drivers a unified payment interface irrespective of operator or location.
This collaboration aligns with the UK’s commitment to install at least 300,000 public chargepoints by 2030, as outlined in the Net Zero Strategy and the Transport Decarbonisation Plan. By tackling interoperability challenges and reducing transaction friction, the joint initiative aims to boost EV uptake and cut transport sector emissions.
The integration is expected to deliver measurable CO₂ reductions by encouraging more frequent use of public chargers and optimising grid demand through smart load management. It could also unlock new revenue streams for local authorities and site hosts by streamlining billing and reporting processes.
Key stakeholders include industry leading chargepoint operator ChargeUK, regional transport bodies, and local councils keen to adopt zero-emission fleets. While exact financial terms remain undisclosed, both Rightcharge and Cord Power Technologies confirm that significant private and equity funding has been channelled into the joint development phase, with a view to commercial roll-out in early 2026.
Net Zero News can reveal that initial pilot sites will be launched in Greater Manchester, Bristol and Glasgow, supported by grant funding from Innovate UK. The pilots will evaluate user experience, transaction processing speeds and grid balancing capabilities under different load conditions.
This collaboration sits firmly within the UK’s broader legislative framework, including the Zero Emission Vehicle Mandate and the upcoming Smart Sustainable Charging Regulations. By integrating payment and energy management systems, the partnership supports the government’s vision of a flexible, resilient and user-friendly charging network.
Net Zero News understands this project also dovetails with local clean air zone initiatives, offering councils a turnkey solution to expand charging points and improve air quality. It reinforces the private sector’s role in delivering public infrastructure that meets both environmental and consumer needs.
For communities, the combined platform promises faster installations and easier access to charging, particularly in underserved urban and rural areas. Installers and maintenance teams will benefit from streamlined operations, while EV fleet operators can access consolidated billing and real-time analytics.
Looking ahead, Rightcharge and Cord Power Technologies plan a phased roll-out across major UK cities, with an ambition to cover 2,000 additional chargepoints by the end of 2027. Further development will explore integration with renewable energy certificates and vehicle-to-grid services to enhance grid stability.
