The company has recently unveiled a new project aimed at enhancing EV charging availability in the picturesque town of Lochmaben, located approximately 70 miles south of Glasgow in the historic county of Dumfriesshire.

This groundbreaking initiative includes the installation of a state-of-the-art rapid charge site, conveniently situated at a Tesco Express store. Zapgo has partnered with Kempower, a leader in fast EV charging technology, to bring this project to fruition. Kempower has supplied its advanced fast EV chargers, including a powerful 500kW Power Unit and a 200kW Double Satellite charger, which together serve two charging bays at the Lochmaben Tesco Express. This collaboration highlights the importance of working with innovative partners to address the charging needs of underserved areas.

One of the standout features of Kempower’s technology is its compact design and flexible configuration options, making it an ideal fit for the limited space available at the Tesco Express site, located along the serene banks of Kirk Loch. The Double Satellite charger, which is only slightly larger than an A4 sheet of paper, optimises space utilisation without compromising on performance. Additionally, the Power Unit can be positioned away from the charging bays, allowing for efficient use of the customer car park.

Another significant advantage of Kempower’s chargers is their dynamic charging capabilities. This feature enables the power to be shared flexibly between each dispenser based on the real-time requirements of the connected vehicles. Such adaptability is particularly beneficial for retail applications, where quick charging during short shopping stops is essential for customer convenience.

Destination charge sites, such as express stores and retail parks, have quickly emerged as a vital category in the EV charging landscape, accounting for approximately half of all public charge points in the UK.
