Renault 4 Electric Van: Up to 254-Mile Range Reimagined

Welcome, Net Zero News readers,
In an exciting development for the electric vehicle market, Renault is set to breathe new life into its legendary F4 van, reimagining it as an all-electric model. However, the anticipation surrounding its launch in the UK remains uncertain.
The Renault 4, a beloved icon from the 1960s, was recently revived with a modern twist as a retro-futuristic crossover designed for the electric era. Now, Renault is keen to expand this revival by introducing a commercial variant, drawing inspiration from the original Renault 4 van, known as the F4 Fourgonnette.
This all-electric van is tailored for tradespeople, delivery drivers, service companies, and fleet operators, presenting itself as a formidable alternative to conventional electric vans. The Renault 4 E-Tech Electric Van continues the rich legacy of its predecessor, whose F4 variant was renowned for its impressive load capacity of 300kg.
One of the standout features of the N1-approved variant is its harmonious blend of style and comfort akin to that of a passenger car, all while providing enhanced cargo capacity. To optimise the space, Renault has ingeniously replaced the rear seats and seat belts with a thermoformed tray, complete with a load-stop system and lashing hooks. This innovative approach increases the cargo space to an impressive 1,045 litres, which includes an underfloor area of 55 litres, perfect for stowing the charging cable. In terms of functionality, the electric van boasts a payload capacity of up to 375kg and a generous load length of 1.2 metres.
For added convenience and security, customers can opt for a grid that separates the passenger area from the loading space. Depending on the country of sale, the vehicle can also be equipped with a luggage cover, an anti-slip mat, or a feature to disable the rear windows and doors.
The production of these vehicles is entrusted to Qstomize, located at the Manufacture Ampere in Maubeuge, part of Renault’s ElectriCity initiative, where the Renault 4 E-Tech is manufactured.
The passenger version of the Renault 4 is available with two different powertrains, both of which are carried over to the commercial van variant, depending on market preferences. The entry-level model features a 40kWh battery that powers a front-mounted motor with an output of 120 horsepower, offering a WLTP range of up to 191 miles (308 km). This model is equipped with an 80kW DC onboard charger, making it a practical choice for urban and suburban use.
For those requiring a longer range, Renault offers a more powerful variant, equipped with a 52kWh battery and a 150hp motor, delivering an impressive WLTP range of up to 254 miles (409 km). Both versions come with an 11kW AC bi-directional charger, with DC charging capabilities of 80kW for the smaller battery and 100kW for the larger. Charging from 15% to 80% with the 11kW AC charger takes approximately two hours and 37 minutes for the smaller battery, while the larger battery requires around three hours and 13 minutes. However, for those in a hurry, the DC fast charger significantly reduces this time to just 30 minutes.
Currently, the Renault 4 E-Tech Electric Van is available for orders in France, with a starting price of €29,300 (approximately £25,365) before VAT. Nevertheless, a spokesperson for Renault has indicated that the R4 van is still undergoing evaluation for the UK market, leaving its eventual launch in limbo.
As we await further updates on the Renault 4 E-Tech Electric Van’s UK debut, it’s clear that this vehicle represents a significant step toward modernising commercial transport while honouring a classic legacy. The blend of practicality, sustainability, and nostalgic design could resonate well with both businesses and consumers looking for eco-friendly alternatives.
