Polestar 5: 884hp Grand Tourer Unveiled for Performance Lovers

Hello, Champions of Net Zero!

Exciting news for electric vehicle enthusiasts and sustainability advocates alike: Polestar’s latest innovation, the flagship 5 Grand Tourer, is now available for purchase in the UK. This remarkable vehicle seamlessly fuses Scandinavian design with all-electric driving, delivering performance that rivals even the most prestigious supercars.

Emerging from the brand’s visionary Precept concept unveiled in 2020, the Polestar 5 serves as a bold statement of the company’s commitment to future design, cutting-edge technology, and sustainability. Now, this concept has been transformed into a production model that stands ready to compete with titans like the Porsche Taycan.

As the fourth addition to Polestar’s expanding lineup—joining the Polestar 2, 3, and 4—the 5 is built on the Polestar Performance Architecture (PPA), marking the brand’s first bespoke electric vehicle platform. This innovative architecture incorporates an 800V electrical system, a first for Polestar, enabling the vehicle to charge at an astonishing rate of up to 350kW. In practical terms, this means the Polestar 5 can achieve a remarkable 10-80% battery charge in as little as 22 minutes, a game-changer for those on the go.

Two versions of the Polestar 5 are now available, each featuring a sophisticated twin-motor setup that can disengage the rear motor to enhance efficiency. The Dual Motor Launch edition boasts an impressive 748 horsepower and 812Nm of torque, allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.8 seconds, all while offering a generous WLTP range of 416 miles. For those seeking even more power, the Performance Launch edition is a formidable contender, producing a staggering 884 horsepower and 1,015Nm of torque, achieving 0-60 mph in a blistering 3.1 seconds, although its WLTP range is slightly lower at 351 miles. Both variants have an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph, ensuring exhilarating performance without compromising safety.

The Polestar 5 Grand Tourer measures a sleek 5 metres in length and showcases a “modern, minimalist surfacing” aesthetic that draws primary inspiration from aviation. Its aerodynamic design is complemented by a wing-like profile and a Kamm-style tail, enhancing both its visual appeal and performance. Notably, it features the largest panoramic glass roof of any Polestar vehicle to date, measuring just over 2 metres long and 1.25 metres wide, flooding the interior with natural light and providing an unparalleled view of the sky.

Inside, the Polestar 5 is designed with driver comfort and performance in mind. The 4+1 seating configuration includes front seats developed in collaboration with Recaro, offering a low hip-point and supportive bolstering synonymous with “typical Swedish comfort.” Buyers can choose between a standard Charcoal MicroTech finish or opt for the luxurious Bridge of Weir Nappa leather, available in Charcoal or Zinc hues. The interior also incorporates natural fibres and recycled materials, aligning with Polestar’s sustainability ethos.

The technology within the Polestar 5 is as impressive as its performance. A 14.5-inch portrait display, a 9.0-inch driver display, and a 9.5-inch head-up display provide an immersive and intuitive user experience. The centre display operates on a Polestar-specific Android Automotive operating system, complete with built-in Google functionalities that take the best aspects from both the Polestar 3 and Polestar 4.

For audiophiles, the Polestar 5 offers an exceptional audio experience, with the option of either the Polestar High-Performance Audio system featuring 10 speakers or an upgraded Bowers & Wilkins system boasting 21 speakers and an impressive 1,680 Watts of power output, complete with Tweeter-on-Top technology for crystal-clear sound.

The vehicle’s safety and convenience features include the Pilot Assist function, which automatically adjusts the car’s speed and position within its chosen lane, operating effectively at speeds of up to 93 mph (150 km/h). This technology enhances the driving experience, making it more enjoyable and less stressful, particularly on long journeys.

The Polestar 5 is equipped with bespoke Michelin tyres that have been specifically designed for the chosen wheel combinations, which range from 20 to 22 inches. The Dual Motor variant rides on BWI passive dampers, while the Performance edition is upgraded with MagneRide adaptive dampers. These advanced dampers can read road conditions 1,000 times per second and can react in a mere three milliseconds, ensuring a smooth and responsive driving experience.

In terms of pricing, the Polestar 5 Dual Motor Launch edition starts at £89,500, while the Performance Launch edition is available from £104,900. With its blend of cutting-edge technology, luxurious design, and powerful performance, the Polestar 5 Grand Tourer is set to make waves in the electric vehicle market and solidify Polestar’s reputation as a leader in sustainable luxury automotive manufacturing.

As we move towards a more sustainable future, the Polestar 5 is not just a car; it’s a statement of intent, embodying the values of performance, luxury, and environmental responsibility. It invites us to embrace the electric revolution while enjoying the thrill of a high-performance vehicle. So, if you’re a champion of net zero and sustainability, this is undoubtedly an electric vehicle worth considering.
