Join the Low-Emission Hybrid Car Club for TransPennine Passengers

Welcome, Net Zero News readers!
In an exciting development for passengers of TransPennine Express, a new pay-as-you-go car club initiative has been launched in collaboration with Enterprise, aimed at making travel more accessible and sustainable. This innovative service is designed to enhance the convenience of rail travel, allowing passengers to complete their journeys in a quicker and more efficient manner.
With the introduction of low-emission hybrid vehicles stationed at Scarborough, Selby, and Malton, users can now seamlessly book a car using the Enterprise Car Club app, regardless of their location. This initiative not only facilitates the last leg of their journey but also promotes a more eco-friendly approach to travel by encouraging passengers to leave their personal vehicles at home and opt for the train instead.
Each participating station will feature designated parking spaces for rental cars, making it incredibly easy for passengers to hire a vehicle directly from the station. The process is streamlined through the user-friendly Enterprise Car Club app, which handles all transactions, ensuring a hassle-free experience for travellers.
New members signing up for this innovative scheme gain access not only to the vehicles at Scarborough, Selby, and Malton but also to a vast network of over 1,300 vehicles located in 220 towns, communities, housing developments, and transport hubs across the UK. This includes 268 vehicles available for round-the-clock rental at 135 Enterprise Rent-A-Car branches nationwide, providing users with ample choice and flexibility.
Dan Gursel, the Commercial Director of Enterprise Car Club in the UK, expressed his enthusiasm for this new initiative, stating, “The combination of rail travel and a car club vehicle for the last leg of the journey delivers a highly practical proposition for many business and leisure trips.” He highlighted how this approach allows individuals to utilise a car only when it is genuinely necessary, thereby contributing to emission reductions when employees choose train travel for a greater number of journeys.
Moreover, Gursel noted that the initiative brings increased choice and convenience for travellers, particularly for those who do not own a car. This is an important consideration in today’s climate-conscious society, where the demand for sustainable transportation options is on the rise.
According to a recent survey conducted by the transport charity Collaborative Mobility UK (CoMoUK), an impressive 55% of car club members reported using a train or tram at least once a week. This figure starkly contrasts with the UK population at large, where only 9% reported similar usage. Furthermore, the survey revealed that 50% of members would have found it difficult to reach their destinations without access to a car, while 44% indicated the need for a vehicle to transport bulky luggage or items.
The introduction of this car club service aligns seamlessly with TransPennine Express’s broader commitment to reducing carbon emissions as part of its goal to achieve net-zero carbon operations by 2050. Chris Jeffery, Accessibility Lead at TransPennine Express, emphasised the significance of sustainable transport options in the fight against climate change. “Having access to sustainable transport options is an important step to reduce carbon emissions and our journey towards a net-zero transport network, so we’re excited to be working with Enterprise Car Club to provide this new service to our customers,” he stated.
Jeffery further highlighted the appeal of this service for individuals who may wish to enjoy the benefits of having a car without the financial burden of ownership. “It’s a great option for those who may want the freedom of having a car without the expense of owning a vehicle,” he concluded.
This partnership between TransPennine Express and Enterprise is not just a step forward in terms of convenience and accessibility for passengers; it also represents a significant leap towards a more sustainable future for transportation in the UK. As the demand for eco-friendly travel alternatives continues to grow, initiatives like this one are vital in paving the way for greener travel solutions.
In a world where the urgency of addressing climate change cannot be overstated, the move towards integrating rail and car club services provides a practical and effective solution to reduce our carbon footprint. By making it easier for passengers to choose sustainable travel options, TransPennine Express is setting a positive example for the rest of the transport sector.
The collaboration between TransPennine Express and Enterprise is a testament to the potential for innovation in the transport industry to create meaningful change. As more organisations recognise the importance of sustainability, we can expect to see further advancements in eco-friendly travel solutions that not only benefit the environment but also enhance the overall travel experience for passengers.
As we continue to champion the cause of net-zero emissions, let us celebrate these positive developments in the transport sector. Initiatives like the pay-as-you-go car club from Enterprise are essential in encouraging a cultural shift towards more sustainable travel habits, making it easier for individuals to make environmentally conscious choices.
