Jeep Recon: 650hp Electric Off-Roader for Thrilling Adventures

Welcome, Net Zero News readers,
In a groundbreaking move towards electrification, Jeep has officially unveiled its latest innovation: the Recon electric 4×4, boasting an impressive 650 horsepower. This remarkable vehicle marks Jeep’s third foray into the all-electric market, following the Avenger and Compass Electric, and stands out as the first fully electric off-roader to receive the coveted ‘trail-rated’ status from the brand. This designation signifies that the Recon has successfully navigated a series of rigorous off-road tests, demonstrating its exceptional performance across critical categories.
Set to hit the UK and European markets late next year, the Recon is being heralded as the electric equivalent of the iconic Wrangler. It promises to deliver the rugged capability that Jeep enthusiasts have come to expect, now in a fully electrified format. Built on a purpose-designed electric architecture, the Recon features standard all-electric, four-wheel drive, enhanced by Jeep’s exclusive Selec-Terrain system. This system offers five distinct drive modes, meticulously tailored for a variety of driving conditions.
At the heart of the Jeep Recon is a dual-motor setup that delivers an exhilarating 650 horsepower and a staggering 841Nm of torque. With a remarkable 0-60 mph acceleration time of just 3.7 seconds, this electric marvel is not just about ruggedness; it also promises thrilling performance.
The Recon is equipped with a robust 100kWh, 400V battery pack, providing an estimated range of up to 250 miles on the US EPA cycle. For added confidence during off-road adventures, the battery is safeguarded by high-strength steel underbody shields, ensuring durability and protection in challenging terrains.
When it comes to suspension, the Jeep Recon features a carefully engineered setup, comprising a short-long arm (SLA) design at the front and an integral link at the rear. This configuration is designed to respond precisely to driver inputs while maximising tyre contact, achieving an optimal balance between on-road comfort and off-road prowess. Off-road specifications are equally impressive, boasting a 34-degree approach angle, a 34.5-degree departure angle, and a 23.5-degree breakover angle, all tailored for adventurous escapades.
The Selec-Terrain traction management system is another standout feature, encompassing a Rock mode exclusively for the US-only Moab trim, alongside Auto, Sport, Snow, and Sand modes. This versatility ensures that drivers can tackle various terrains with confidence. Additionally, the Recon is equipped with low-speed Selec-Speed Control, a feature that aids in navigating challenging inclines and declines. When activated, this system maintains a set speed, allowing drivers to focus solely on steering through tough landscapes.
For enhanced off-road performance, the Recon boasts an electronic locking differential, which ensures torque is delivered to both rear wheels when engaged. With the simple flip of a switch, drivers can transition from an open differential to a fully locked configuration, providing an extra layer of control in demanding situations.
On the exterior, the Jeep Recon seamlessly blends heritage-inspired design with modern electric innovation. A dual-pane sunroof comes standard, while an optional Sky One-Touch Power Top is available for those who crave an open-air experience. Notably, Jeep has designed the Recon as the only fully electric vehicle equipped with removable doors, rear quarter glass, and swing gate glass, allowing enthusiasts to customise their vehicle according to their preferences.
Inside, the Jeep Recon features a technologically advanced cabin designed for the modern adventurer. A 12.3-inch driver cluster comes standard, paired with an impressive 14.5-inch horizontal touchscreen centre display—the largest singular usable digital screen space ever offered in a Jeep vehicle. The interior is adorned with handcrafted materials, clever storage solutions, and customisable touches that embody the spirit of the Jeep lifestyle. Safety is paramount, with over 170 standard safety and security features included, ensuring peace of mind for drivers and passengers alike.
Bob Broderdorf, the CEO of the Jeep brand, expressed enthusiasm about the Recon, stating that it is an “all-electric SUV that stays true to our core values of freedom, adventure, and capability.” He further emphasised that the Recon is “trail-rated, purpose-built, and ready to take Jeep enthusiasts into the future without compromising the legendary performance they expect.” Broderdorf added, “With the Jeep Recon, we’re proving that electrification isn’t just compatible with off-road excellence; it can elevate it, delivering instant torque, precision control, and a quieter, more connected driving experience that’s uniquely Jeep.”
Production of the Recon is set to commence early next year, with initial launches planned for the US and Canada. Following this, a global rollout is expected in the fourth quarter, paving the way for Jeep’s electrifying future.
As we look ahead, the Jeep Recon signifies a crucial step in the automotive industry’s journey towards sustainability, proving that electric vehicles can maintain the rugged spirit and adventure that Jeep is known for. With its blend of modern technology and classic design, the Recon is poised to capture the hearts of off-road enthusiasts and eco-conscious drivers alike.
