Allstar EV Network Now Offers First Charge Depot Charging

Welcome, Net Zero News readers,

In an exciting development for fleet operators across the UK, First Charge’s commercial electric vehicle (EV) charging service has now become available on the Allstar network. This partnership marks a significant milestone in advancing the accessibility and convenience of electric vehicle charging for commercial users, making strides towards a sustainable and net-zero future.

First Charge, launched earlier this year by First Bus, provides fleet operators with access to high-powered, secure charging facilities located at bus depots throughout the UK. This initiative not only supports the electrification of public transport but also extends its EV infrastructure to assist the broader transition to net-zero emissions for all fleets, including those serving our communities. With a nationwide network of ultra-rapid charging superhubs, First Charge is positioned to play a pivotal role in the electrification of transport.

By opening its depots to third-party EV users, First Bus is addressing a critical gap in the charging infrastructure landscape. As highlighted by the Road Haulage Association (RHA), a lack of adequate depot and public charging facilities has been a significant barrier for operators looking to invest in electric heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) and vans. This partnership aims to break down these barriers, offering a reliable and robust charging solution for commercial operators who depend on high-power charging in urban environments.

Eligible Allstar customers will now benefit from existing EV charging infrastructure that offers secure, rapid, and high-volume charging capabilities of up to 360kW. This is particularly advantageous for larger vehicles such as light goods vehicles (LGVs) and electric heavy goods vehicles (eHGVs), which often struggle to find suitable charging options within the conventional public network. The ability to access larger charging spaces specifically designed for these vehicles represents a significant leap forward in facilitating the transition to electric transport.

The First Charge network is the latest addition to Allstar’s extensive charging solution, which currently encompasses over 28,000 locations nationwide and boasts more than 76,000 chargers. This network continues to grow at a remarkable pace, ensuring that fleet operators have the resources they need to integrate electric vehicles into their operations seamlessly.

Tom Rowlands, managing director of global EV solutions at Allstar’s parent company Corpay, emphasised the importance of tailored solutions in the transition to net-zero emissions. “Central to a successful transition to net zero is infrastructure that can make charging an electric vehicle as convenient and as quick as possible,” he remarked. “However, this demands an approach that is far from one size fits all. That’s why we’ve focused on bringing different charging environments to our customers, from near-home charging to depots, for the smallest cars to the largest HGVs, all under a single payment card.”

Rowlands also noted that while the installation of new charging stations is an ongoing project, it is crucial to maximise the utility of existing charging points across the country. “Partnering with First Charge was a natural fit, with 10 locations across the UK,” he added, highlighting the collaborative effort to enhance the charging landscape.

Faizan Ahmad, decarbonisation director at First Bus, echoed this sentiment, stating, “Through First Charge, we are unlocking the potential of our depot charging infrastructure for use beyond our own bus charging needs, helping more fleets access ultra-rapid charging to make the switch to zero-emission vehicles.”

Ahmad further expressed enthusiasm about the partnership with Allstar, recognising its reputation for making EV infrastructure more accessible. “This collaboration represents an important step toward a more inclusive and scalable charging network across the UK,” he concluded.

In summary, the partnership between First Charge and Allstar is not just about expanding charging networks; it is about fostering a culture of sustainability in transport. By making high-powered charging facilities available to a wider audience, this initiative paves the way for more fleets to transition to electric, thereby contributing to the UK’s overarching goal of achieving net-zero emissions.

As we continue to navigate the challenges of climate change and urban pollution, innovations like First Charge are crucial in facilitating a smoother shift to electric vehicles. By enhancing the charging infrastructure and removing barriers for commercial operators, we take significant steps towards creating a more sustainable and resilient transport system for future generations.

Stay tuned for more exciting updates and developments in the journey towards a net-zero future. Together, we can drive change and champion sustainable practices across all sectors!
