Kia Unveils PV5 Chassis Cab & Business Ecosystem at Solutrans 2025

Hello, Champions of Net Zero!
In a significant stride towards sustainable transport solutions, Kia has unveiled its innovative PV5 Chassis Cab at the prestigious Solutrans 2025 show in France. This launch not only enhances Kia’s line-up of purpose-built vehicles (PBVs) but also marks an important milestone in the evolution of electric light commercial vehicles (eLCVs) and their ecosystem.
Revolutionising the Light Commercial Vehicle Market
The PV5 Chassis Cab is Kia’s first fully electric dedicated chassis cab model. It complements the existing PV5 Cargo, Crew versions, and the passenger MPV model, along with forthcoming wheelchair-accessible variants. This new addition is set to redefine the light commercial vehicle sector by providing flexibility and utility tailored to a wide range of professional applications.
Developed in collaboration with European converters, the PV5 Chassis Cab stands out as the most adaptable variant in the PV5 family. It supports an extensive array of professional conversions, catering to diverse industries. Whether it’s a dropside for transporting construction materials, a tipper for municipal waste collection, box vans for e-commerce logistics, or refrigerated vans for grocery deliveries, the PV5 is designed to meet the varying needs of businesses.
Designed for Efficiency and Performance
Built upon Kia’s dedicated Electric-Global Modular Platform for Service (E-GMP.S), this compact vehicle, measuring under 5 metres, boasts impressive capabilities. With a payload capacity of up to 1,005 kg and a cargo space of up to 8 cubic metres, the PV5 Chassis Cab rivals larger D-segment vans while maintaining its compact dimensions. Notably, it features a remarkable turning radius of 5.5 metres, making it ideally suited for urban environments where manoeuvrability is essential.
“The launch of the PV5 Chassis Cab underscores our commitment to redefining what a light commercial vehicle can be,” remarked Marc Hedrich, President and CEO of Kia Europe. “It combines compact efficiency with the carrying capacity of larger vans to offer customers across Europe a responsible, flexible solution for daily operations.”
A Taste of Innovation
At the Solutrans exhibition, Kia is offering attendees a unique experience by showcasing a real-world application of the PV5 Chassis Cab. The vehicle has been converted into a food truck, serving speciality coffee and traditional Lyonnais pastries, brioches aux pralines roses. This practical demonstration highlights the vehicle’s versatility and potential for various commercial uses.
Battery Options and Charging Capabilities
The PV5 Chassis Cab will be available with two battery options. The initial launch features a 51.5 kWh battery, with a long-range 71.2 kWh battery set to be introduced in 2026. The electric range will vary according to the specific conversion of the vehicle; however, for perspective, the recently launched L2H1 Cargo model can achieve up to 297 km (184 miles) with the standard battery and an impressive 416 km (258 miles) with the long-range option, based on WLTP figures.
To minimise downtime, the PV5 supports DC fast charging capabilities of up to 150 kW, allowing for a 10-80% recharge in approximately 30 minutes. Additionally, a 22 kW AC charging option will be available later, further enhancing the vehicle’s convenience for business users.
Safety and Durability at Its Core
The structural integrity of the PV5 Chassis Cab is fortified with a dual-annular steel exoskeleton and a rear underrun protection device (RUPD). Furthermore, it encompasses a suite of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), including smart cruise control, lane following assist with hands-on detection, lane keeping assist, and intelligent speed limit assist. These features not only enhance safety but also contribute to a more secure driving experience for operators.
In a bid to instil confidence in buyers, the PV5 Chassis Cab is backed by Kia’s comprehensive seven-year or 150,000 km warranty, which can be extended up to 260,000 km. The battery is also covered separately for an impressive eight years, ensuring peace of mind for businesses reliant on this innovative vehicle.
Introducing the Kia Business Solutions Ecosystem
In addition to the PV5 Chassis Cab, Kia has unveiled the Kia Business Solutions Ecosystem at Solutrans. This comprehensive suite of connectivity and charging services is designed to streamline fleet management, enhance operational efficiency, and accelerate the electrification journey for businesses. The ecosystem integrates Kia-branded and multi-branded services, catering specifically to various business-to-business (B2B) needs.
The services are structured around Kia Platform Beyond Vehicle (PBV)’s four strategic pillars: Drive, Charge, Connect, and Work. Collectively, these solutions create an integrated environment aimed at keeping businesses mobile, efficient, and connected in an increasingly electrified landscape.
“The Kia Business Solutions Ecosystem extends far beyond the vehicle,” stated Pablo Martinez Masip, Vice President of Product and Marketing at Kia Europe and COO of Kia Connect Europe. “It connects every touchpoint, starting at purchase and flowing through to charging and digital insights, helping businesses manage their fleets more intelligently.”
A Step Towards a Sustainable Future
Kia’s introduction of the PV5 Chassis Cab and the accompanying Business Solutions Ecosystem reflects the brand’s strategic commitment to sustainability and innovation within the automotive industry. As businesses increasingly seek environmentally friendly solutions, the PV5 offers a promising option that balances performance, efficiency, and sustainability.
As we move towards a future where electric vehicles are integral to commercial operations, Kia is positioning itself as a leader in the transition to sustainable transport. The versatility of the PV5 Chassis Cab, combined with Kia’s robust support systems, ensures that businesses can operate effectively while reducing their carbon footprint.
Conclusion
The unveiling of the PV5 Chassis Cab at Solutrans 2025 is more than just the launch of a new vehicle; it represents a paradigm shift in the light commercial vehicle sector. By prioritising flexibility, efficiency, and sustainability, Kia is setting a new standard for electric commercial vehicles that meets the evolving needs of businesses across Europe.
