FASTA Accelerates Sustainable Farming Innovation for Biodiversity and Carbon Reduction

Welcome to Net Zero News, your daily briefing on the UK’s transition to a low‑carbon future.
The UK Agri‑Tech Centre and the Carbon Trust have launched the FASTA (Food Agriculture System Technology Accelerator) programme a pioneering initiative designed to scale technologies that enable sustainable farming practices across the country. Unveiled on 1 December 2025 and formally opened for registrations between 6 and 23 January 2026, FASTA aims to bolster the adoption of robust Measurement, Reporting and Verification (MRV) systems within UK agriculture, a sector responsible for approximately 10% of the nation’s greenhouse gas emissions. These MRV systems are critical to enhancing emissions transparency, securing financial backing, and guiding climate‑smart decisions, helping to advance both biodiversity protection and carbon reduction goals. The initiative offers UK‑based innovators technical and commercial support to commercialise impactful solutions. These tools promise to transform how environmental impact is tracked and managed within the agricultural sector adding urgency to the call for smarter, data‑driven approaches to sustainability. FASTA is now inviting UK innovators to seize this opportunity to bring innovative MRV technologies to scale.
What this means:
FASTA represents a key step forward in the integration of biodiversity gains with emissions reduction across the UK’s farming sector. By advancing transparent reporting and market‑ready MRV systems, the programme empowers farmers and technology developers alike to align conservation objectives with Net Zero targets. This dual focus helps ensure future agriculture contributes to ecosystem resilience while cutting emissions linking environmental stewardship with private investment and innovation.
