Electra Unveils New 7.5 & 9.2-Tonne eCargo Platforms

Hello, Champions of Net Zero!

In an exciting development for the zero-emission transport sector, Electra has officially unveiled its latest advancements: the 7.5-tonne and 9.2-tonne versions of its innovative Iveco-based eCargo platform. These new models are now available for immediate order, marking a significant step in Electra’s commitment to sustainable commercial vehicles.

The launch of these eCargo platforms comes on the heels of the successful deployment of Electra’s 12-tonne model, which has been operational for over four years in various applications. With this new introduction, Electra aims to cater to operators who require slightly lighter vehicles, expanding the reach of their cutting-edge technology.

Designed specifically for urban environments characterised by stop/start operations, municipal waste collections, and a plethora of commercial applications, the new eCargo platforms boast a full-size cab. This thoughtful design not only enhances ergonomics but also provides additional space and comfort for both drivers and their crews, ensuring a more pleasant working environment.

Electra’s eCargo platforms are well-aligned with the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (DEFRA)’s forthcoming food waste collection legislation. This ambitious policy mandates that all households in England must receive separate weekly food waste collections by the end of March 2026. As such, these vehicles are not just innovative; they play a crucial role in supporting legislative requirements that aim to improve sustainability across the nation.

Furthermore, the versatility of these vehicles extends to caged tipper applications. Their robust payload capacity, flexible chassis layout, and smart cab design make them ideal for a variety of operational needs, ensuring they can adapt to the demands of diverse commercial sectors.

One of the standout features of the new eCargo platforms is their configurable battery placement. Operators and bodybuilders can choose between external chassis-mounted or internal frame installations, allowing them to tailor the vehicle to their specific operational requirements. The configurable chassis lengths start from 3,330mm and can be adjusted upwards, providing added flexibility.

Additional highlights include a powerful 140kWh thermally managed battery pack, which ensures optimal performance and longevity. The vehicles also support 150kW DC fast charging capability, making them suitable for quick turnaround times. Both Left-Hand Drive (LHD) and Right-Hand Drive (RHD) configurations cater to domestic and international markets, while an impressive eight-year battery warranty offers operators peace of mind regarding long-term performance.

Operators interested in these new eCargo platforms can place their orders immediately, with demonstrator vehicles set to hit the road soon for customer trials. To celebrate this significant milestone, Electra is offering a special promotion: the first five orders placed in October will receive a complimentary chassis, although the electrification package must be purchased separately. This limited-time offer presents a unique opportunity for operators to enhance their fleets with cutting-edge zero-emission technology.

Benjamin Smith, Managing Director of Electra, expressed enthusiasm about the launch, stating, “The unveiling of our 7.5-tonne and 9.2-tonne eCargo platforms represents a major step forward in Electra’s mission to accelerate zero-emission transport. We are proud to introduce another platform into our lineup which combines comfort, versatility, and proven technology. Our October launch offer – limited to the first five orders – provides operators with a unique opportunity to upgrade their fleets, while our eight-year battery warranty gives confidence in long-term performance. These vehicles are ready for today’s urban duty cycles and tomorrow’s regulatory landscape.”

As the industry moves towards greener alternatives, the introduction of Electra’s new eCargo platforms is a timely reminder of the advancements being made in zero-emission commercial vehicles. By providing versatile solutions that meet the needs of modern urban operations, Electra is not only contributing to a more sustainable future but also helping businesses to comply with evolving regulations. The road ahead is indeed looking brighter for zero-emission transport.

Stay tuned for more updates from the forefront of sustainable transportation, and let’s continue to champion the movement towards net zero!
