BYD Seal 6 DM-i Saloon & Touring PHEVs Now Available

Hello, Champions of Net Zero!

Exciting news is on the horizon as BYD, a rising star in the electric and hybrid vehicle market, has officially launched its new Seal 6 DM-i Saloon and Touring plug-in hybrids. Starting at competitive prices of £33,990 for the Saloon and £34,990 for the Touring variant, these models are set to make a significant impact in the UK automotive landscape.

The introduction of the Seal 6 DM-i series marks a pivotal expansion in BYD’s plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) line-up. Joining the ranks alongside the Seal U DM-i SUV and the eagerly awaited petrol-electric Atto 2 crossover, this new saloon and touring car line represents BYD’s first foray into estate cars in Europe. The Seal 6 DM-i models are poised to challenge established competitors, including the popular Volkswagen Passat eHybrid estate, bringing fresh competition to the market.

The Seal 6 DM-i Touring, in particular, offers a generous boot space of 500 litres that can be extended to an impressive 1,535 litres by utilising the quick-release handles to fold down the rear seats in a 40:60 split. Additionally, all versions come equipped with a convenient power tailgate, enhancing user-friendliness and practicality for daily use.

At the heart of the BYD Seal 6 DM-i is an intelligent plug-in hybrid system, meticulously designed to merge the smoothness and responsiveness associated with electric vehicle driving with the adaptability of a petrol-electric powertrain. This system comprises a 98hp 1.5-litre petrol engine renowned for its high thermal efficiency, complemented by a robust 197hp electric motor. The innovative BYD Blade battery technology supports two capacity options: 10.08kWh for the base models and 19kWh for the Comfort variants.

With this advanced powertrain, the Seal 6 DM-i models can achieve up to 65 miles of all-electric driving range according to the WLTP cycle, translating to a remarkable overall range of up to 935 miles for the Saloon. The Touring model offers slightly different figures, with a commendable 62 miles of electric range and an overall potential of 839 miles. Such capabilities make these vehicles incredibly appealing for both urban commuting and long-distance travel.

In terms of environmental performance, the CO2 emissions for the Saloon stand at 52g/km for the Boost versions, dropping to a mere 34g/km for the top-tier Comfort versions. The Touring model performs similarly well, with emissions of 60g/km for Boost and 38g/km for Comfort. This impressive environmental profile aligns perfectly with the growing demand for sustainable transport solutions among eco-conscious consumers.

The power output for the Boost versions of both the Saloon and Touring models is set at 184hp, while the Comfort grades offer an increased total power of 212hp. Acceleration figures are also noteworthy, with the Saloon achieving 0-62mph in 8.9 seconds, while the Touring version improves slightly to 8.5 seconds. These performance metrics ensure that the Seal 6 DM-i models do not compromise on driving excitement while promoting eco-friendliness.

For those interested in the financial implications, the Benefit-in-Kind (BiK) tax rates are attractively low. The Boost Saloon models attract a rate of 16% for the current financial year, while the Comfort versions benefit from a reduced rate of 9%. The Boost Touring models are rated at 18%, and Comfort Touring models also enjoy a 9% rate. This makes the Seal 6 DM-i range an appealing option for both personal and business users who want to minimise their tax liabilities while driving a modern vehicle.

Charging capabilities are another highlight of the Seal 6 DM-i series. The Boost models can charge at up to 3.3kW AC, completing a full charge from 15% to 100% in approximately three hours. Touring versions take charging efficiency a step further, with capabilities of up to 6.6kW AC, reducing the full charge time to just two hours and 42 minutes. Moreover, they can also replenish power at a rapid 26kW DC, allowing for a 30-80% charge in just 23 minutes, making long journeys more manageable.

As the most likely best-selling variant, the Boost models come with a host of features designed for comfort and convenience. Standard equipment includes stylish 17-inch alloy wheels, a 3.3kW onboard charger, automatic windscreen wipers and headlights, and vegan leather upholstery throughout the cabin. Additionally, drivers and passengers alike are treated to a six-speaker audio system and a 12.8-inch infotainment touchscreen, which is equipped with front and rear USB ports—four in total—along with seamless smartphone integration through Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Step inside, and you’ll find an array of thoughtful features. The cabin is designed with user comfort in mind, featuring power-adjustable front seats—six-way for the driver and four-way for the passenger—alongside footwell and door illumination for added ambience. To enhance security and convenience, a smartphone key system is also available, allowing for easy access to the vehicle.

Safety is paramount in the Seal 6 DM-i, with an extensive suite of driver assistance features included as standard. Drivers can benefit from rear parking sensors, a reversing camera, blind spot detection, and driver fatigue management systems. Additional features such as rear cross-traffic alert, emergency braking, and collision warnings for both forward and rear incidents enhance overall road safety.

The Comfort grade elevates the driving experience even further, boasting a larger 15.6-inch multimedia touchscreen, 18-inch alloy wheels, and a more powerful 6.6kW onboard charger. The interior is adorned with door mirror puddle lights and rear privacy glass, while comfort-enhancing features include a panoramic roof with an electric sunshade and multi-coloured ambient lighting. The Comfort models also provide heated steering wheels and heated/ventilated front seats, complete with a memory position setting for the driver’s convenience.

For audiophiles, an upgraded eight-speaker HiFi Sound audio package ensures an exceptional listening experience. Additionally, a wireless smartphone charger, front parking sensors, and a comprehensive 360-degree camera system round out the impressive features of the Comfort grade.

The Seal 6 DM-i Saloon and Touring are now available for order, with the first customer deliveries expected to commence in December 2025. With their combination of cutting-edge technology, spacious interiors, and sustainable driving capabilities, these new BYD models are set to redefine the standards for plug-in hybrids in the UK market.
