Built Environment: Future Homes Hub Champions Net‑Zero Homes at Scale

Welcome to Net Zero News, your daily briefing on the UK’s transition to a low‑carbon future.

The Future Homes Hub continues to lead the charge in decarbonising the UK’s built environment. On 12 May 2026, Futurebuild will join forces with UK Construction Week London at Excel in a landmark ‘Built Environment Super Event’, spotlighting net‑zero innovation and retrofit systems, circular materials, offsite construction and energy‑efficient building technologies. This collaboration will maintain Futurebuild’s focus on low‑carbon frameworks while enhancing visibility and cross‑sector connection across sustainability, delivery and specification communities.

Meanwhile, in the homes sector, the Future Homes Hub released the 2025 Whole Life Carbon Benchmarking Study, based on 48 detailed assessments from 17 industry partners. This pioneering data reveals embodied carbon metrics for new low‑rise homes, offering a vital evidence base to guide decarbonisation of future residential construction.

Complementing this effort, the New Homes Sector Net Zero Transition Plan, developed with the Carbon Trust, sets a shared framework and pathway for the sector’s decarbonisation aligned with government carbon budgets and housing delivery goals. At its launch, 35 major and mid‑sized homebuilders committed to the plan, promising collaboration on data, standards and delivery at scale.

On governance, Jennie Daly CBE, Chief Executive of Taylor Wimpey, will assume the role of Chair of the Future Homes Hub in June 2026. She succeeds David Thomas and brings a strong focus on building sustainable, affordable homes that serve both people and nature.

What this means:
The co‑location of Futurebuild and UK Construction Week signals greater integration of sustainability with practical delivery in construction, offering a unified platform for low‑carbon innovation.
The Whole Life Carbon study fills a critical data gap, enabling builders and policymakers to benchmark performance and prioritise whole‑life carbon reductions not just operational energy use.
The Sector Net Zero Transition Plan provides essential clarity and consistency, helping homebuilders adopt low‑carbon practices cost‑effectively and at scale.
The appointment of Jennie Daly as Chair strengthens leadership alignment between industry and policy, ensuring the Hub remains influential in bridging standards, delivery and ecosystem engagement.
