Brightly Software Earns Bronze Accreditation from Carbon Literacy

Welcome, Net Zero News readers,
Brightly Software, a proud member of the Siemens family, has recently achieved an impressive milestone by securing the Bronze-level Carbon Literate Organisation Standard. This significant accomplishment underscores their commitment to fostering a workforce equipped to tackle climate change effectively.
The Carbon Literate Organisation (CLO) accreditation highlights the pivotal role that both organisations and individuals play in the fight against climate change. It encourages the development and retention of a Carbon Literate workforce, compelling accredited organisations to engage actively with employees and external stakeholders alike to cultivate and promote zero-carbon behaviours. Notably, this accreditation is applicable to a diverse range of entities, from large corporations to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
“Talking about carbon reduction is straightforward, and most people acknowledge its importance. However, identifying actionable steps that can lead to a genuine impact is often more complex, and even more so to implement these actions,” remarked Zoe Stirling-Wall, Brightly’s newly appointed Business Development Manager for Sustainability. Zoe played a crucial role in Brightly’s journey toward achieving this accreditation and expressed her enthusiasm about joining a company that not only speaks about sustainability but actively embodies it. “I’m delighted to have joined a company that doesn’t just talk the talk – but also walks the walk – and helps clients to do the same.”
Zoe joined Brightly in January 2025, stepping into her role with a strong focus on sustainability. From the outset, it was clear to her that Brightly regarded Carbon Literacy as a matter of utmost importance. Under the leadership of Hannah Winstanley, General Manager and Country Lead for the UK, the organisation recognised the immense value of this training. In November 2024, Hannah took the initiative to arrange training not only for herself but also for her colleagues. As a result, nineteen members of staff—nearly a third of Brightly’s UK workforce—are now certified in carbon literacy. Furthermore, as an approved carbon literacy facilitator, Zoe is positioned to provide ongoing formal training to both colleagues and clients. “Providing tools to our clients to manage and track carbon commitments and to boost sustainability is already a significant part of Brightly’s offering. We’re thrilled now to be able to add even more value to our clients through Carbon Literacy training,” she added.
Thanks to the substantial number of staff now trained in Carbon Literacy and the presence of an approved facilitator like Zoe, Brightly has secured its Bronze-level Carbon Literate Organisation status for the next three years. Looking ahead, Brightly has set its sights on achieving silver-level accreditation, aiming for an even higher proportion of staff to be trained and accredited in carbon literacy.
“We see this as just the beginning,” Zoe concluded. “Being carbon literate is not just about knowledge – it’s about action. As part of the training, all of us had to commit to both a personal and professional change that we would make in order to reduce our environmental footprint. It’s about making meaningful changes and then tracking those commitments over the long term. I look forward to helping our team and our clients to continue to develop and maintain more and more environmentally responsible practices over the coming years.”
Dave Coleman, Co-Founder and Managing Director of The Carbon Literacy Project, echoed the essential nature of Carbon Literacy. “Carbon Literacy is an essential skill, vital to every workplace, community, and place of study. It is the foundational knowledge and a catalyst to empowering people to act on climate. However, Carbon Literacy is only the first step. The actions taken and pledged by learners as part of their Carbon Literacy have an immediate impact within their organisation; however, it is the maintenance of these and further actions, supported by a Carbon Literate organisational culture, that reaps the greatest rewards for both participants and their organisations. By becoming a Bronze accredited Carbon Literate Organisation, Brightly Software has demonstrated its commitment to genuine low carbon action, environmental and economic impact, and the building of a low carbon future for us all.”

In conclusion, as we applaud Brightly’s achievements, let us remember that the battle against climate change requires collective effort and commitment. Whether you’re part of a large corporation or a small enterprise, there is always a way to contribute to a low-carbon future. Let’s embrace the challenge, equip ourselves with the knowledge we need, and take meaningful steps towards sustainability.
