ChargePlace Scotland Teams Up with Zapmap for EV Charging

Hello, Champions of Net Zero!
In an exciting development for electric vehicle (EV) enthusiasts and environmentally conscious drivers in Scotland, ChargePlace Scotland has announced a significant partnership with Zapmap, a leading EV charging app. This collaboration aims to enhance the convenience and accessibility of charging facilities across the nation, further solidifying Scotland’s commitment to a sustainable transport future.
With this partnership, users of the Zapmap app can now take advantage of Zap-Pay, a seamless in-app payment solution that allows them to effortlessly pay for charging at over 2,800 charge points throughout Scotland. This is a game-changer for EV drivers, simplifying the payment process and eliminating the hassle of juggling multiple payment methods across different networks.
ChargePlace Scotland, under the auspices of Transport Scotland—the national transport agency—strives to make EV ownership accessible for all Scottish drivers. The network, expertly managed by Evolt Charging, spans from the northernmost reaches of Shetland down to the southern borders of Scotland, with new charging points being installed regularly to meet the growing demand for electric vehicle infrastructure.
What’s noteworthy about the ChargePlace Scotland network is that the individual charge points are owned by a diverse range of entities. These include local authorities, public bodies, charities, and private businesses that have received grants to facilitate the installation of these vital charging facilities. This collaborative approach not only supports the expansion of the charging network but also promotes community involvement in the transition to electric mobility.
In addition to the payment integration, ChargePlace Scotland has established a live data partnership with Zapmap. This means that users can access real-time status updates on charging points via the app or web map, enabling them to plan their journeys more effectively. With features that allow users to search for charging stations, plan longer trips, and share updates with fellow electric car drivers, the app enhances the overall EV driving experience.
The ChargePlace Scotland network joins an impressive roster of payment partners, which includes Be.EV, EVC, PoGo, Osprey, ESB Energy, char.gy, GeniePoint, Mer, MFG EV Power, Fastned, Alfa Power, Connected Kerb, evyve, Charge My Street, Applegreen Electric, FOR EV, and Monta. This extensive network of partners underscores the commitment to providing EV drivers with a comprehensive charging infrastructure that is both user-friendly and efficient.
Zap-Pay allows drivers to conveniently use their credit or debit cards for charging, all while aiming to include the essential charge point networks across the UK. By streamlining payment methods, Zap-Pay effectively reduces the confusion often associated with multiple operators and enhances the overall user experience.
Furthermore, drivers utilising Zap-Pay can keep track of their charging history, receive live status updates while away from their vehicle, and download receipts for easy expense management. This level of transparency and convenience is essential for promoting the adoption of electric vehicles, as it encourages more drivers to make the switch to greener alternatives.
Chris Waldron from Transport Scotland remarked on the significance of this partnership, stating: “The Scottish Government is fully committed to tackling climate change and phasing out the need for petrol and diesel cars and vans by 2030 to deliver a healthier, cleaner, and greener Scotland for current and future generations. ChargePlace Scotland has played a significant role in the transition to zero-emission vehicles over the last decade. A roaming partnership with Zapmap will help us to continue on that journey towards a transport system that is sustainable, inclusive, and accessible.”
Matt Lloyd, Head of CPO Networks at Zapmap, expressed his enthusiasm for the integration, saying: “Integrating ChargePlace Scotland’s network into Zap-Pay is a great result for both current and future EV drivers, enabling quick and easy charging throughout the country. It’s impressive to see Scotland’s ongoing commitment to developing the public EV charging infrastructure, and we’re delighted to play a part in the transition to sustainable transport.”
Neil Swanson, Director of EVA Scotland, added his support for the new initiative, stating: “The Association has long advocated for drivers being able to access all charging networks from a single account, making every journey simpler. We welcome the growth of interoperability and roaming services, and it is fantastic to see Zapmap offering its service across the ChargePlace Scotland network.”
This partnership marks a significant step forward in the journey towards a more sustainable and user-friendly electric vehicle ecosystem in Scotland. As the country works towards its ambitious goals of reducing carbon emissions and promoting greener transportation options, the collaboration between ChargePlace Scotland and Zapmap is a promising sign of progress. By making EV charging more accessible and convenient, we can encourage more drivers to embrace electric vehicles, ultimately contributing to a cleaner and healthier environment for all.
