Share Your Feedback on Regional Transport: Have Your Say!

Hello, Champions of Net Zero!
Exciting news for the people of Wales as they will soon have the opportunity to shape the future of regional transport spending. The Welsh Government is introducing Regional Transport Plans that will revolutionize the approach to improving transportation in each region of Wales. These plans aim to make transport more accessible, sustainable, and efficient for communities across the country.
Under this new approach, local leaders will have increased control over transport investments in their respective areas. Starting from the financial year 2026/27, a number of Welsh Government transport grants will be devolved to the regions, allowing priorities to be determined locally. This shift in decision-making will empower communities to have a direct say in how transport funds are allocated.
Teams in North, Mid, Southeast, and Southwest Wales have been diligently working on developing their regional transport plans. They are now gearing up to engage with local residents to gather feedback on proposed policies and projects. It is an excellent opportunity for people to voice their opinions and contribute to shaping the future of transportation in their region.
The final plans outlining the transportation initiatives to be implemented in each region over the next five years will be unveiled later this summer. This marks a significant step towards creating a more sustainable and efficient transport network that meets the needs of the Welsh people.
Cabinet Secretary for Transport and North Wales, Ken Skates, expressed his support for the new approach, stating:
“Empowering local councils at the most appropriate level to deliver on the transport plans for their region is absolutely the right thing to do. With their local knowledge and understanding, they are best placed to understand local needs and ensure that the investments made are putting people and communities first.”
It is heartening to see the Welsh Government taking proactive steps to involve local communities in decision-making processes that directly impact their lives. By engaging with residents and empowering local leaders, Wales is moving towards a more sustainable and community-focused transport system.
