Kempower Reaches 3,000 Fast Chargers Across Norway

Hello, Champions of Net Zero!

In an impressive display of commitment to sustainable transport, Finnish DC fast-charging solutions manufacturer Kempower has achieved a remarkable milestone: the installation of 3,000 fast charging points across Norway. This significant achievement positions Kempower as a leading provider of DC fast charging solutions in a nation renowned for its rapid transition to electric vehicles (EVs).

Norway has been at the forefront of the EV movement, with a staggering 88.9% of new cars sold in 2024 being electric. The country aims to take this commitment further by ensuring that all new cars sold in 2025 are zero-emission. By the end of 2024, Norway boasted a total of 9,478 fast charging points, creating an extensive network that supports the increasing number of electric vehicles on the road.

The journey for Kempower began with the opening of its first public charging station in July 2020. Since then, the company has seen a surge in the number of charging stations installed by its customers and partners. These installations are not limited to personal vehicles; they also cater to electric boats, buses, and trucks, showcasing the versatility and adaptability of Kempower’s technology. The distributed design of their charging solutions allows customers and partners to efficiently distribute power across various vehicles and applications.

Kempower’s customer, Plug, exemplifies this versatility by offering charging solutions for electric boats at piers while simultaneously providing electricity for cars in harbour parking areas. Furthermore, Tide Bus operates the most northern bus depot equipped with Kempower chargers, which are managed by Wennstrom in Hammerfest, Finnmark. This collaboration highlights the innovative approaches being taken to meet the unique challenges of electric mobility in diverse settings.

Last year marked a significant advancement in heavy-duty transport, as Fastcharge, in partnership with Wennstrom, launched the first three public charging stations in Norway dedicated exclusively to heavy-duty trucks. These stations utilise Kempower’s Liquid Cooled Satellites and are compatible with the Kempower Megawatt Charging System (MCS). This development is vital for supporting the logistics and transport sectors, which are crucial for a successful transition to electric mobility.

The distributed charging system that Kempower has developed allows for the combination of different chargers within the same network. This flexibility is especially critical in space-constrained areas, such as truck depots. The innovative design enables wall-mounted Kempower Control Units to be installed in overhead positions, while the Kempower Satellites can be set up in alternate charging areas, potentially up to 80 metres away. This approach not only maximises charging efficiency but also optimises the use of available space, easing operational challenges faced by businesses in the sector.

Erik Kanerva, Director of Sales for Northern Europe at Kempower, expressed his enthusiasm for this milestone achievement. “I’m extremely happy for this milestone, and I want to thank our customers and partners for choosing to work with us, and the broader EV community in Norway. From the very beginning, we put ourselves in the EV drivers’ shoes and wanted to understand what is important,” he said.

Kanerva elaborated on the core philosophy behind Kempower’s innovations: “In the end, what benefits everyone is that the maximum amount of energy can be delivered through the whole charging system, without capping power to single outputs. This way, the EV driver can power up their car as quickly as possible, and our customers get the most out of their investments.”

Kempower’s success in Norway is not just a testament to their innovative technology; it also reflects the country’s broader mission to achieve net zero emissions. By investing in robust charging infrastructure, Norway is paving the way for a future where electric vehicles are the norm rather than the exception. With the growing network of charging stations, the range anxiety that often accompanies electric vehicle ownership is diminishing, making it easier for more people to transition to sustainable transport.

Looking ahead, the continued expansion of fast charging points is crucial for supporting both private and commercial electric vehicles. As more consumers opt for EVs, the demand for accessible, efficient charging solutions will only increase. Kempower’s ability to adapt and innovate will be key in meeting these evolving needs. Their focus on flexibility and efficiency in charging solutions positions them well for future growth and success in the expanding EV market.

As we celebrate Kempower’s achievements, let us also acknowledge the collective efforts of all stakeholders involved in the transition to electric mobility. From manufacturers to governments and consumers, everyone plays a vital role in creating a sustainable future. The success of initiatives like those undertaken by Kempower in Norway serves as a beacon of hope and inspiration for other countries striving to reduce their carbon footprints and embrace a greener way of life.

In conclusion, Kempower’s milestone of 3,000 installed fast charging points in Norway marks a significant step forward in the global effort to combat climate change. As we move towards a future dominated by electric vehicles, the importance of a reliable and efficient charging network cannot be overstated. The journey towards net zero is a shared responsibility, and with continued innovation and collaboration, we can pave the way for a cleaner, more sustainable world for generations to come.
