Yutong Launches Zero Emission Truck Range in the UK

Welcome, Net Zero News readers! Today, we have an exciting development to share with you in the world of sustainable transport. Yutong, a prominent name in electric vehicles, is making significant strides in the UK market by introducing a new battery-powered 7.5-tonne truck. Set to launch in the second quarter of 2025, this innovative vehicle promises to revolutionise the logistics and transport sectors, aligning perfectly with our collective goal of achieving net-zero emissions.

The Yutong T75e, as it is named, will be sold and serviced by Pelican Engineering, a trusted partner that has already established itself in the UK market through the introduction of Yutong’s electric city buses and coaches. Since being appointed as Yutong’s sole importer and distributor for the UK and Ireland in 2014, Pelican Engineering has made impressive inroads, having sold more than 1,500 buses and coaches, out of which 800 are battery electric. This remarkable success reflects the growing trust major bus fleets have in both Yutong and Pelican Engineering.

What makes the Yutong T75e particularly noteworthy is its flexibility and efficiency. It offers operators the choice between two battery options: a 100kW or a more robust 132kW version. The latter boasts an impressive range of over 180 miles on a single charge, making it an ideal solution for urban deliveries and regional transport. With an unladen chassis-cab weight of under 3,000kg, this truck has been meticulously designed to accommodate various body types, catering to essential UK sectors such as box, tipper, curtain-side, compaction, and insulated bodies. Additionally, it features three different electric Power Take-Off (ePTO) options, ensuring that it can meet diverse operational requirements.

Richard Crump, the Managing Director at Pelican Engineering, shared his insights on this exciting development. He stated, “We believe the 7.5-tonne sector is the easiest sector to electrify. The Yutong truck chassis, combined with our cost-effective charger and battery storage solution provided by Pelican AEAUTO, brings operators a readymade solution for their zero-emission needs.” This commitment to sustainability and innovation positions Pelican Engineering and Yutong at the forefront of the electric vehicle revolution in the UK.

Crump further elaborated on the support and infrastructure that will accompany the launch of the Yutong T75e. “As with the bus and coach sector, we will be working with the Yutong service team, based in the UK, to bring these trucks to market. We intend to service and maintain the new vehicles through a combination of strategically located vehicle management units, supported by the team at our Castleford head office.” This comprehensive service strategy is designed to ensure that operators can rely on robust maintenance and support, further cementing the T75e’s position as a reliable choice for businesses transitioning to electric fleets.

Looking ahead, Crump noted, “Clearly, as we grow our truck market footprint, we will continue to expand the service offering and we will be appointing new sales and service agents in due course.” This forward-thinking approach not only highlights Pelican Engineering’s commitment to customer satisfaction but also their dedication to fostering a sustainable transport ecosystem in the UK.

As we move closer to 2025, the anticipation surrounding the Yutong T75e continues to build. With increasing pressure on industries to reduce their carbon footprints, the introduction of electric vehicles like the T75e represents a crucial step towards achieving our net-zero goals. By embracing electric solutions, transport operators can not only enhance their operational efficiency but also contribute to cleaner air and a healthier environment.

The potential impact of the Yutong T75e extends beyond just the transport sector. Its launch signifies a broader trend towards electrification in various industries, reflecting a growing recognition of the need for sustainable practices. As more companies consider the shift to electric, the ripple effects will be felt across supply chains, urban planning, and even consumer behaviour.

In conclusion, the unveiling of the Yutong T75e is an encouraging sign of progress in the journey towards net-zero emissions. With strong backing from Pelican Engineering and a commitment to providing reliable electric vehicles, we can expect this new truck to play a significant role in shaping the future of sustainable transport in the UK. We invite you to stay tuned as we continue to follow this story and bring you the latest updates on the electrification of transport. Together, we can champion the cause of net zero and embrace a greener, cleaner future.
