Transport for Wales, in partnership with mid-Wales councils, is leading the way with a pioneering trial that has the potential to transform the bus network in the region.

Additionally, the new model will eliminate restrictions on existing publicly owned bus companies, creating a level playing field for all operators to compete fairly.

Ken Skates, Cabinet Secretary for Transport and North Wales, expressed his enthusiasm for this transformation:

“Delivering a bus bill that fundamentally changes how bus services are delivered in Wales is a huge step for the bus industry.

“Local knowledge and expertise are crucial in creating a bus network that caters to communities. That’s why I’m pleased to be collaborating with the local authorities in mid-Wales to test our plans and prepare the industry for the upcoming changes brought about by bus reform.

“In addition to shaping the future of the bus industry in Wales, communities across mid-Wales will benefit from service improvements that they can expect in the future.

“We are on the brink of something very exciting, and I am eager to hear what passengers think of the improved services.”

The new franchising model is designed to establish a more customer-focused and integrated network of services. Decisions on routes, timetables, and fares will be made collaboratively by the Welsh Government, Transport for Wales, and local councils. This cooperative approach ensures that the community’s needs are prioritised, resulting in a reliable and efficient bus network that meets the demands of modern-day passengers.
