Believ Reduces Charging Rates to Boost EV Adoption

Hello, Champions of Net Zero!
In an exciting development for electric vehicle (EV) enthusiasts and those considering making the switch, charge point operator Believ has announced significant price reductions for EV charging in the boroughs of Wandsworth and Waltham Forest. This strategic move is set to save drivers up to 15p per kilowatt-hour (kWh), making electric driving even more accessible and attractive.
The new charging rate, now at 48p per kWh, is designed to encourage local residents to utilise the public charging networks and to further promote the myriad benefits of transitioning from traditional petrol and diesel vehicles to electric alternatives. With a calculated cost of just 15p per mile—based on an efficiency figure of 4 miles per kWh—this pricing makes driving an EV not only environmentally friendly but also economically advantageous. In fact, it offers a cost saving of 5p per mile compared to running a petrol car, according to Believ’s calculations.
Guy Bartlett, CEO of Believ, emphasised the importance of pricing in influencing driver behaviour when it comes to choosing an EV charging network. He remarked, “We know that price is one of many important factors drivers take into account when using EV charging networks. It is also essential that charge points are reliable and easy to use – and we’re delighted to be working with Wandsworth and Waltham Forest to install a charging network that meets these needs.”
This price reduction is not merely a financial incentive; it is part of a broader vision to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles and further the decarbonisation of transport. “As well as encouraging the use of the public charging network, this price reduction is designed to help drivers make the switch and help further the decarbonisation of transport – in order to deliver cleaner air for all,” Bartlett stated.
He further elaborated on the dual benefits of this initiative, highlighting that while the reduction in carbon emissions is a long-term goal, the immediate advantage of cleaner air is crucial for public health. “The reduction in carbon emissions and its impact is a long-term benefit and goal of the EV switch, but cleaner air is an immediate benefit and incredibly important for our health. The industry has a duty to do what we can to encourage more and more drivers to make the switch sooner,” he added.
This initiative by Believ marks a significant step in the journey towards a greener future, where electric vehicles play a pivotal role in reducing our carbon footprint and improving air quality. By making charging more affordable, Believ is not just providing a service but is actively contributing to a movement that aims to foster a sustainable environment for generations to come.
As the UK continues to push towards ambitious net-zero goals, such initiatives are crucial in facilitating the transition to electric mobility. The lowering of charging costs can serve as a catalyst, encouraging more drivers to consider EVs as a viable alternative to traditional vehicles. The advantages of electric vehicles extend beyond just lower running costs; they also contribute to a significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, which is vital in the fight against climate change.
Moreover, the expansion of a reliable and easy-to-use charging network is essential in overcoming one of the major barriers to EV adoption—range anxiety. Many potential EV users are deterred by concerns over the availability of charging stations and the time it takes to recharge. By ensuring that these charging points are not only plentiful but also affordable, Believ is addressing these concerns head-on, paving the way for a more electric-friendly infrastructure.
As we look to the future, it is clear that the landscape of transportation is evolving, and initiatives like these are critical in shaping a sustainable and environmentally conscious society. The commitment to lowering charging rates is just one aspect of a larger commitment to sustainability that companies like Believ are embracing. With the right support and infrastructure, the transition to electric vehicles can be both seamless and beneficial for all.
In conclusion, the recent price cut by Believ represents more than just a financial incentive; it signifies a pivotal moment in the journey towards a sustainable and cleaner future. As we continue to advocate for net-zero initiatives, let us celebrate such progressive steps that not only make electric vehicles more accessible but also contribute to a healthier planet.
As we move forward, it is imperative that we continue to support and promote such initiatives, encouraging more drivers to make the switch to electric vehicles. Together, we can work towards a greener future, where cleaner air is not just a dream but a reality for all.
