In an innovative move towards sustainable transport, National Grid Electricity Distribution is harnessing the power of recycled vegetable oil to fuel some of its non-electric vehicles in Lincolnshire. This exciting trial, which is taking place at the Boston depot, aims to utilise Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) as a viable alternative to conventional diesel. National Grid is not just stopping at HVO. The company recently added a new fully electric 4×4 utility vehicle to its fleet through a collaboration with Skoda. This involves converting seventy Skoda Enyaqs into light commercial vehicles with all-terrain capabilities, further enhancing its sustainability credentials.

Christopher Mayell, Transport Manager at National Grid Electricity Distribution, emphasised the importance of this trial, stating:

“As the country’s largest distribution network operator, we have one of the largest fleets in the UK, and we are working tirelessly to deliver more electric vehicles each year where suitable alternatives exist. The results of the trial have shown an 89% reduction in CO2 emissions, which is great news.”
