Zest Launches 78 EV Charging Points at University of Warwick
Zest Powers Up: 78 New EV Charging Spaces at the University of Warwick
In a significant stride towards sustainable transport, Zest has unveiled 78 new electric vehicle (EV) charging spaces at the University of Warwick. This initiative not only enhances the university’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions but also sets a benchmark for other institutions aiming to embrace cleaner mobility solutions.
A Major Investment for a Greener Future
This development is part of a £1.3 million investment by Zest, a certified B Corp dedicated to promoting sustainable practices. Over the next 15 years, Zest will manage these state-of-the-art charging facilities, making it easier for students, staff, and visitors to transition to electric vehicles.
- Fast and Rapid Chargers: The new installations include both fast and rapid chargers strategically placed across various car parks on campus.
- Environmental Impact: It’s projected that these chargers will help save over 15,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions—the equivalent of driving 69 million miles in a petrol car.
The Road to Decarbonisation: Upcoming Events
This exciting announcement comes just ahead of the Transport + Energy Forum, set to take place at Warwick Conferences next week. This forum will gather more than 60 public sector leaders to discuss actionable steps toward transport decarbonisation. Notably, Zest will showcase its partnership with the University during the event.
Delegates attending the forum will also have the unique opportunity to tour the university’s advanced facilities, including:
- Digital Automation Laboratory
- Degree Apprenticeship Centre
- Materials Engineering Centre
- Energy Innovation Centre
Voices from the Frontlines of Change
George Saxon, Head of Transport Systems & Operations at the University of Warwick, commented, “Partnering with Zest marks a significant step towards sustainable transport solutions on our campus. These new charging facilities not only improve convenience for our community but also support the broader shift towards cleaner mobility in the region.”
Robin Heap, CEO of Zest, echoed this sentiment, stating, “By providing abundant charging facilities ahead of demand, we encourage more individuals to switch to electric vehicles. We are proud to support the University of Warwick as it works to reduce carbon emissions from all transport forms.”
Why This Matters
The introduction of EV charging stations is more than just a convenience; it represents a pivotal moment in the transition to sustainable transport. With increased access to charging facilities, we can expect a surge in EV adoption, ultimately leading to a cleaner environment.
