New partnership brings advice surgeries to Greater Pollok
Govan Law Centre (GLC) has exciting news to share with the residents of Greater Pollok, Glasgow. They have partnered with Threehills Community Supermarket and Café to bring free money, debt, and legal advice surgeries to the community every Wednesday from 10am to 4pm, starting on Wednesday 30 October.
Heather Davies, the manager at Threehills Community Supermarket & Café, expressed her enthusiasm for this collaboration. Threehills Community Supermarket & Café is a project by Good Food Scotland, established in October 2024. It offers an affordable shopping space, a community café, and a community hub providing various support services and social activities for the local community.
The main goal of Threehills Community Supermarket & Café is to provide immediate financial relief for households with low incomes by increasing their access to affordable, nutritious food. Additionally, they aim to address underlying issues that may put individuals and families at risk of experiencing food insecurity and hunger.
The partnership with Govan Law Centre is an essential step towards achieving this goal. Members of Threehills will have access to bespoke in-house support and advice from GLC on a range of issues such as income maximisation, debt support, housing guidance, homelessness prevention, and more. This collaboration will play a significant role in providing comprehensive support to the community and reducing the impact of poverty in the Greater Pollok area.
Sophie McBride, a money and debt adviser at Govan Law Centre, highlighted the importance of this partnership in reaching individuals who are dealing with financial and legal challenges but may not know where to turn for help. By offering services within the community supermarket, GLC can provide free and confidential advice on money, debt, and legal matters directly to those in need, without requiring them to visit an office.
The impact of money and debt issues on mental health cannot be overlooked, and seeking advice can be daunting for many. The presence of GLC services within Threehills community supermarket creates a safe and welcoming environment where individuals can comfortably discuss sensitive matters. This approach ensures privacy and dignity for those seeking assistance, ultimately promoting positive mental wellbeing among community members.
