Work begins on 25 new homes in Renton.
Cordale Housing Association has commenced work on a £5.4 million project to develop 25 new homes at Dalquhurn in Renton. The endeavor, spearheaded by Contractor AS Homes, is set to bring 15 two-bed houses, 8 three-bed houses, and 2 four-bed houses to fruition. With generous funding of over £2.6 million from the Scottish Government, the completion date for this ambitious project is slated for August 2025.
Since its integration as a subsidiary of Caledonia Housing Association (CHA) in 2013, Cordale has been unwavering in its commitment to providing the area with top-notch, energy-efficient, and sustainable housing options.
On a recent site visit to mark the commencement of construction work, the Cordale Committee, CHA’s chief executive, and the local Renton team were joined by notable figures such as Dame Jackie Baillie, MSP for Dumbarton and convener of Housing and Communities, as well as Councillor Gurpreet Singh Johal from West Dunbartonshire Council.
Martin Walker, Chair of Cordale Housing Association, expressed his excitement, stating, “It has long been our vision at Cordale to enhance the Dalquhurn area through the development of new homes. With over 500 high-quality social homes already in Renton, I am thrilled to witness the creation of this fantastic new development for the community. My heartfelt gratitude goes out to the entire team for kickstarting this project.”
Julie Cosgrove, Chief Executive of Caledonia Housing Association, echoed similar sentiments, remarking, “Today marks the commencement of a significant project at Dalquhurn, a commitment we have devoted years to. We are ecstatic to see it materialising now. I extend my appreciation to West Dunbartonshire Council and the Scottish Government for their unwavering support in making this development a reality.”
Jackie Baillie MSP expressed her delight, highlighting the importance of Cordale Housing’s initiative in bridging the gap in social housing. She acknowledged the challenges posed by reduced funding from the Scottish Government but commended Caledonia Housing Association for their persistence in catering to the local community’s housing needs.
AS Homes Scotland’s Managing Director, Paul Kelly, emphasized the company’s dedication to delivering sustainable and well-designed homes that will serve the Renton community admirably for years to come. Through collaborations with partners like Cordale Housing Association, AS Homes strives to create vibrant communities aligned with the evolving needs of residents.
Councillor Gurpreet Singh Johal, the Convener of Housing and Communities at West Dunbartonshire Council, expressed his elation at the initiation of the project, emphasizing the importance of developing sustainable and affordable homes in the region amidst increasing demand.
Minister for Housing, Paul McLennan, lauded Cordale Housing Association’s latest venture, emphasising the need for safe and comfortable homes for all. The 25 newly proposed social rented dwellings at Dalquhurn in Renton epitomize the Scottish Government’s commitment to providing affordable housing solutions across the country, with a target of 110,000 affordable homes by 2032, majority of which will be allocated for social rent.
