Former hospital in Penicuik now offering timber kits.
Muir Timber Systems has initiated the delivery of timber kits for the construction of 24 new homes at the former Rosslynlee Hospital site near Penicuik in Edinburgh. This significant project builds upon the firm’s ongoing partnership with Scottish homebuilder, Carmichael Homes, following a successful collaboration on an affordable housing development in Plean earlier this year.
The project entails the construction of 24 detached, two-storey villas to meet the increasing demand for high-quality, private housing in the area. These homes will not only contribute to the local housing stock but also enhance the community by offering modern, energy-efficient living solutions.
The timber kits for the development are meticulously designed with a focus on sustainability. They are crafted from renewable materials and manufactured at Muir Timber Systems’ state-of-the-art facility in Inverkeithing. The factory is powered by a solar array, highlighting the company’s dedication to eco-friendly practices and reducing carbon emissions within the construction industry.
Gary Gray, the general manager of Muir Timber Systems, expressed his excitement about the collaboration: “We are thrilled to continue our successful partnership with Carmichael Homes, contributing to new residential schemes across the region. Through the use of our sustainable timber solutions, we are shaping communities with homes that not only meet the highest quality standards but also align with the increasing demand for energy-efficient construction.”
Scott Carmichael, the managing director of Carmichael Homes, also shared his enthusiasm: “We are delighted to extend our partnership with Muir Timber Systems on this exciting development in Penicuik. Their commitment to sustainability and quality perfectly matches our vision of creating homes that endure the test of time, both in design and environmental impact. By utilising sustainably sourced timber kits manufactured with solar power, we are ensuring that these new homes will deliver long-term value to the community while reducing our carbon footprint.”
