Biggest housing project yet for North Ayrshire Council

Residents and interested parties are welcome to check out the North Ayrshire Council’s latest venture into their largest housing development yet. A whopping total of 202 homes are in the works for the former maternity unit site at Ayrshire Central in Irvine.
This ambitious £50 million proposal, with a generous £24 million grant from the Scottish Government, will encompass a diverse range of housing options including general needs houses, amenity bungalows, and homes specifically designed for wheelchair users.
To keep the local community in the loop, the council is organising a special event known as ‘Meet the Builder’ on Monday, 21st October at Castlepark Community Centre. Appointments are available from 1pm to 3pm and 4pm to 6pm for those keen to learn more about the project, review the final site plans and house designs, and engage with the contractor, Ashleigh (Scotland) Limited.
If you wish to attend this event, secure your place by emailing developmentandstrategy@north-ayrshire.gov.uk or calling 01294 324031.
Councillor Alan Hill, the cabinet member for Communities and Islands, expressed his enthusiasm for this groundbreaking project, highlighting the positive impact it will have in revitalising the area: “This is a hugely exciting development, breathing new life into what is now a derelict site. It will also be North Ayrshire Council’s largest-ever development of new council homes, delivering more than 200 much-needed modern and energy-efficient homes for residents.”
In acknowledging the pressing need for adequate housing, Housing minister Paul McLennan emphasized the significance of this latest development in Irvine, backed by substantial Scottish Government funding: “Everyone deserves a safe, warm and affordable home that meets their needs and I am pleased that this new development in Irvine will be backed by £24m of Scottish Government funding over the next few years.”
He further stated, “This development will help to address significant housing pressures in the area by transforming vacant land into over 200 new energy-efficient homes for the local community. This was made possible by working together with our partners in North Ayrshire Council and NHS Ayrshire and Arran.”
