Ayrshire Housing Development Approved

Planning permission has been granted for an exciting affordable housing development set to be constructed on agricultural land in Kirkmichael, bringing hope and progress to the local community.
A total of twelve homes have been designated for the area, set to occupy the land opposite 42 to 46 Bolestyle Road. Amongst these homes are a mix of four detached and four semi-detached properties, all nestled within the 0.45-hectare site.
Ayrshire Housing, champions of affordable housing initiatives, sought to renew permission previously granted in 2021. This renewal has now been given the green light, opening the doors for progress and growth in the region.
According to council papers, the latest application aims to extend the timeframe for implementing the previous planning permission for the construction of a residential development consisting of 12 dwelling houses and associated infrastructure. The design of the development remains consistent with the original plans approved under the earlier application.
Specifically, the approved development entails the creation of 12 new residential properties to be managed and operated by a local housing association. The layout includes four semi-detached dwellings and four detached properties, with four units positioned along the frontage of Bolestyle Road and the remainder spread throughout the site.
As part of the development, a new access road will be constructed towards the southern corner of the site. Each unit will have private parking, provided through in-curtilage parking and a parking court accessible from Meadowbank Place. Furthermore, every property will feature private garden space, complemented by an open amenity area at the entrance from Bolestyle Road.
The range of properties will encompass single-storey buildings alongside one-and three-quarter-storey structures, offering diversity in housing options for residents.
Notably, the development proposal is exclusively focused on affordable housing for use by a housing association, highlighting a commitment to addressing the housing needs of the community.
With the approval of the application renewal, council papers emphasised the lack of significant changes in the site’s setting or its surroundings that would warrant a different recommendation. The decision to approve the application was made after careful consideration of the planning history of the site, balancing the rights of the applicant with the general interest of the public.
This positive development marks a significant step forward in providing much-needed affordable housing options in Kirkmichael, paving the way for a more inclusive and sustainable community for all.
