Roadchef to rollout mass fast-charging under Macquarie vision.

Macquarie, a financial services group based in Australia, is making a significant investment to bring a network of fast-charging electric vehicle chargers to the UK.

Roadchef, a leading motorway service area operator under Macquarie, will be installing approximately 650 fast-charging points across most of its sites in collaboration with partners.

These newly upgraded EV charging facilities will be powered in part by a 9MW capacity of solar energy installed onsite.

In addition to this, Roadchef will be working with partners to pilot charging solutions specifically designed for heavy goods vehicles at two key locations along the motorway network. They will also be developing 100 additional parking bays in anticipation of the rise of electric HGVs.

Macquarie has committed to supporting this initiative as part of a larger £20 billion investment plan across its UK portfolio. Shemara Wikramanayake, the managing director and CEO of Macquarie Group, expressed their dedication to investing in UK infrastructure to drive economic growth, create jobs, improve public services, and strengthen communities.

Wikramanayake stated, “The upgrade of Roadchef sites is our latest in a long line of investments in UK infrastructure, and we have even more plans for future investments. We firmly believe that infrastructure investment is crucial in laying the groundwork for the country’s success, and we are excited to contribute to the growth and development of the UK.”
