North Lanarkshire Council reassures tenants.

North Lanarkshire Council, led by housing convener Councillor Michael McPake, has taken a significant step to reaffirm its commitment to its tenants by signing the Scottish Housing Regulator’s Assurance Statement. This move highlights the council’s dedication to providing positive outcomes and quality services in crucial areas such as housing, homelessness, tenant safety, and equality.

During a recent Housing Committee meeting, Councillor McPake signed the Assurance Statement, which will be submitted to the Regulator for review. One specific area of focus within the statement is tenant and resident safety, emphasising compliance with safety requirements concerning gas, electricity, water, and fire safety. North Lanarkshire Council has demonstrated full compliance with all regulatory standards and outcomes in this regard.

Councillor McPake expressed, “Our tenants are paramount in our commitment. By endorsing the Scottish Housing Regulator’s Assurance Statement, we reiterate our dedication to meeting all necessary regulations and standards expected by our tenants. We continuously assess, review, and enhance our processes to ensure ongoing compliance, reinforcing our pledge to high-quality services.”

The council’s proactive approach has resulted in no instances of non-compliance being reported to the regulator, underscoring their commitment to maintaining excellence in service delivery. Since April 2019, social landlords in Scotland have been mandated to issue an Annual Assurance Statement for the preceding financial year, highlighting their performance against regulatory requirements.

North Lanarkshire Council’s unwavering dedication to tenant welfare and safety sets a commendable standard for other housing providers to emulate. By prioritising transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement, the council exemplifies responsible and effective landlord practices in the pursuit of delivering exceptional services to its tenants.
