New homes coming to Blindwells by Places for People.

Places for People has recently acquired a section of the Blindwells development with plans to construct 135 new homes in this evolving town located just eleven miles from the heart of Edinburgh. This visionary project aims to create a mixed-use neighbourhood with a variety of amenities and housing options to meet the needs of the community.
With a successful track record from the award-winning Longniddry Village development, Places for People is set to deliver 93 homes for private sale and 42 affordable rented homes in a prime location adjacent to the new town centre. The goal is to offer high-quality, well-designed homes that cater to a diverse range of customers.
The homes available for sale will range from two-bedroom apartments to four-bedroom houses, while the affordable housing units, in agreement with East Lothian Council, will include bungalows, cottage flats, and two to four-bedroom houses. All properties will feature flexible, low-maintenance living spaces, stylish open-plan layouts, energy-efficient elements, and allocated parking for each residence.
Not only will Places for People provide much-needed housing, but they will also create opportunities for the local community. During the construction phase, five new jobs will be generated, along with support for local supply chains and apprenticeships through construction sub-contractors. The company is also planning various community initiatives, including engagement programmes with local schools, support for the local food bank, donation of a defibrillator, and expansion of the children’s play area.
Colin Jack, regional managing director, Scotland at Places for People, expressed excitement about the project, stating, “Places for People is thrilled to be involved in constructing this collection of new homes and contributing to the vision of Blindwells as a modern, thriving town. By creating sustainable communities with homes for all in Scotland, we believe we can make a positive impact on the lives of our customers and the broader community. We welcome anyone interested in the lifestyle at Blindwells to reach out to learn more about the project.”
Blindwells has been identified as the ideal location for a vibrant new town, significantly aided by its convenient proximity to the A1 and the East Coast mainline. Purchased from Hargreaves Land, which developed the 1,600-home masterplan for Blindwells, Places for People is set to commence construction on-site this month following planning consent earlier this year. The private sale homes are scheduled to hit the market in January, with the new homes ready for occupancy by early 2025 and a show home set to open next year.
