Hyundai to Launch Electric City Car Crossover.

Hyundai’s latest addition to its electric vehicle lineup, the £23k Inster city car, is soon to be joined by a crossover version, promising a rugged yet stylish twist on the original design.

The upcoming Inster Cross is set to enter production later this year, offering a more off-road inspired look with special features such as beefed-up bumpers, embossed black claddings, skid plates, and bespoke 17-inch alloy wheels. Additionally, it will come standard with roof racks and sport an exclusive Amazonas Green Matte exterior colour, making it a standout choice for those looking to combine urban functionality with outdoor adventures.

Stepping inside the Inster Cross, drivers can expect a unique colour and trim combination featuring grey cloth with lime-yellow accents. This vibrant theme extends to the dashboard, adding a pop of colour to the interior.

Under the bonnet, the Inster Cross will offer the same front-wheel-drive powertrain options as the base model. This includes a 97hp motor powered by a 42kWh battery, providing up to 203 miles of WLTP range. For those seeking a longer range and additional power, there will also be a Long Range model with a 49kWh battery delivering up to 229 miles of range and a more robust 115hp motor.

Designed for optimal efficiency, both models come equipped with a battery heating system, heat pump, and an 11kW onboard charger to ensure convenient charging options for drivers.

In terms of space and versatility, the Inster Cross maintains the roomy interior and ample luggage capacity of its base counterpart. With up to 1,059 litres of boot space and versatile seating configurations, including fold-flat rear seats and sliding second-row seats, the Inster Cross offers practicality without compromising on comfort.

Based on the petrol-powered Casper crossover available only in Korea, the standard Inster boasts a stretched body and wheelbase to provide additional room, bridging the gap between city cars and superminis.

Advanced driver assistance features on the Inster and Inster Cross include Highway Driving Assist 1.5, Smart Cruise Control, and Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist 1.5, ensuring a safe and convenient driving experience for users.

Production of the Inster Cross is scheduled to commence later this year at Hyundai’s manufacturing plant in Korea, with prices and specifications to be announced closer to the launch date.
