Citroën reveals next-gen C5 Aircross at Paris show

Citroën has offered a glimpse of its upcoming C5 Aircross with a brand new concept unveiled at the prestigious Paris Motor Show.

The highly-anticipated second-generation Ford Kuga and Volkswagen Tiguan are set to make their debut next year, promising to cater to the evolving needs of customers seeking a practical, comfortable, and stylish family SUV.

This latest addition to the Stellantis family of SUVs follows the success of the Peugeot 3008 and Vauxhall Grandland, both of which made a splash in the market this year. Like its sibling models, the new C5 Aircross will be constructed on the innovative STLA Medium platform, a first for the iconic brand.

The C5 Aircross will measure 4.65 meters in length, making it 150mm longer than its current counterpart. Citroën boasts that the new model will provide ample interior space for up to five passengers. Additionally, an extended rear overhang will enhance aerodynamics, likely resulting in increased boot space for added convenience.

The versatile platform will accommodate a range of powertrains, including combustion engines, hybrids, and electric options. While specific details about the powertrains are yet to be revealed, the Peugeot 3008 offers a 136hp 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol mild hybrid, a plug-in hybrid with a 52-mile all-electric range, as well as standard- and long-range fully electric versions with robust battery options achieving up to 435 miles of range.

The C5 Aircross concept showcases Citroën’s fresh new logo, with distinctive vertical colour clips on the front doors and bumper inspired by the latest C3 and C3 Aircross models. The concept also debuts the brand’s new three-point light signature, adding a touch of modernity to its design.

Citroën has implemented several clever architectural and design features in the concept to enhance efficiency, including the extended rear overhang, a sleek sloping roof, and ‘Light Wings’ flush-mounted rear lights.

The revamped design is anticipated to improve the electric range by an impressive 18 miles on the motorway compared to the current C5 Aircross silhouette, showcasing Citroën’s commitment to sustainability and innovation.

The cabin of the C5 Aircross is set to offer heightened comfort, connectivity, and spaciousness, along with undisclosed pioneering innovations. Designed to resemble a luxurious lounge, the interior is being touted as a wellness area that will be fully unveiled next year.
