New Hyundai Inster EV: £23,495 Starting Price

Hyundai has officially unveiled the prices and specifications for its highly anticipated Inster baby electric SUV, marking a significant milestone in the brand’s commitment towards sustainable mobility.

The Inster, introduced earlier this summer, stands out as Hyundai’s first small EV SUV for the UK market, representing the brand’s pioneering foray into the realm of fully electrified city cars.

Starting at a price of £23,495, the Inster boasts an impressive range of up to 229 miles, establishing itself as a formidable contender in the electric vehicle market against rival models such as the Dacia Spring, Citroën ë-C3, and the forthcoming Leapmotor T03.

Built upon the foundation of the petrol-powered Casper crossover, exclusively available in Korea, the Inster features a distinctive design with a elongated body and wheelbase to exude a rugged aesthetic while providing additional interior space. Hyundai boldly positions the Inster at the intersection between city cars and superminis, offering practicality and versatility for urban drivers.

The vehicle’s interior is designed with flexibility in mind, featuring fold-flat functionality for all seats, including the driver’s seat, and a rear bench that can slide and recline for added comfort. The boot space starts at 238 litres and expands to an impressive 1,059 litres with the seats folded down, ensuring ample storage capacity for everyday use.

The Inster range comprises two powertrain options and two distinct grades. The standard variant is equipped with a single front motor delivering 97hp, powered by a 42kWh battery that yields up to 203 miles of WLTP range. Meanwhile, the Long Range model features a larger 49kWh battery, providing the highest range of 229 miles along with a more potent 115hp front motor.

Both models are engineered for optimal range efficiency, incorporating a standard battery heating system, heat pump, and an 11kW onboard charger. The standard model can be charged at up to 73kW DC, while the Long Range variant offers 85kW DC charging capability, ensuring quick and convenient charging solutions for drivers.

Furthermore, the Inster offers external and internal vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality, enabling users to power external devices and engage in bi-directional charging without the need for additional equipment.

Customers can choose between two trim levels – 01 and 02. The Inster 01 base trim comes equipped with a range of features including 15-inch alloy wheels, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10.25-inch touchscreen display with navigation, Apple CarPlay & Android Auto compatibility, and Bluelink connected car services with over-the-air updates.

For added safety and convenience, the Inster 01 includes rear parking sensors with a rear-view camera, dynamic parking control, smart cruise control with stop/go functionality, automatic headlights, smart key access with keyless entry and start/stop button. Interior amenities consist of air conditioning with climate control, a leather steering wheel with height and reach adjustment, and electrically adjustable and heated door mirrors.

Customers interested in the Long Range powertrain option for the Inster 01 can acquire it for a starting price of £25,045.

On the other hand, the Inster 02 is exclusively available in Long Range configuration, priced from £26,745, and offers enhanced features such as 17-inch alloy wheels, front parking sensors, LED projection headlamps, LED rear lights, privacy glass, and roof rails. Inside, the Inster 02 boasts LED multifunction steering wheel lights, ambient lighting with a choice of 64 colours, fold-flat front seats, and a sliding rear bench. Additionally, the 02 model includes heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, an automatically dimming rearview mirror, and a wireless charging pad.

With its innovative design, cutting-edge technology, and versatile features, the Hyundai Inster proves to be a compelling choice for environmentally conscious consumers seeking an electric SUV that combines style, functionality, and sustainability. The Inster sets a new benchmark in the electric vehicle segment, embodying Hyundai’s commitment to driving the future of mobility towards a greener and more sustainable tomorrow.
