Barrhead Housing’s Year of Achievements

Tenants of Barrhead Housing recently came together with staff to celebrate what has been described as one of the association’s most successful years in history. The 38th Annual General Meeting, held at the Salvational Army Hall on Main Street, highlighted several major milestones for Barrhead Housing.

Among the notable achievements of Barrhead Housing in the 2023-24 fiscal year were reaching the milestone of 1000 homes, achieving an 86% customer satisfaction rate, investing £1.6 million in home modernisation, attaining Investors in People Gold status, securing £326,000 of welfare support for 211 households in East Renfrewshire, implementing a new repairs service, introducing a new housing-management system, providing faster online services through a new website and Chatbot, and completing 718 home visits to support tenants.

During the AGM, tenant Marian Doyle presented on the work of the tenant-led Service Improvement Group (SIG), which provided recommendations aimed at enhancing all aspects of how the association supports and serves its tenants. Chairman John Hamilton emphasised the importance of tenants in the association’s operations, stating, “Tenants are at the heart of everything we do at Barrhead Housing, and this is underlined by the invaluable work being carried out by the SIG.”

Commending the achievements of Barrhead Housing, East Renfrewshire Provost Mary Montague said, “Well done to Barrhead Housing Association Board and staff for all their achievements in housing provision, support for their tenants and the benefits they bring to the local community.”

Chief executive officer Lorna Wilson announced at the AGM that the association had delivered £4 million in social value through its Brighter Futures project. Wilson expressed unwavering commitment to improving the lives of tenants and factored homeowners, and strengthening communities with partners and stakeholders.

Barrhead Housing received external recognition for its achievements, being shortlisted for ‘Team of the Year’ at the Scottish Housing Awards organized by the Chartered Institute of Housing, and runners-up for ‘Champions of the Year’ at the National Good Practice Awards held by the Tenants Participation Advisory Service. Member of Parliament Kirsten Oswald acknowledged Barrhead Housing’s efforts in tackling poverty and inequality in a motion tabled in the House of Commons.
