Have your say on East Dunbartonshire’s energy plan
East Dunbartonshire Council is reaching out to local residents, businesses, and organisations within the area to provide valuable input on a strategic initiative aimed at decarbonising heat and enhancing energy efficiency in buildings across the region.
The council has initiated a consultation process on its proposed Local Heat and Energy Efficiency Strategy (LHEES) and Delivery Plan, which is designed to align with Scotland’s statutory targets for reducing fuel poverty and achieving net zero emissions.
The LHEES encompasses both residential and commercial properties and is tasked with:
- Outlining the necessary changes in the building stock to meet national objectives, such as combating fuel poverty and attaining net zero greenhouse gas emissions
- Identifying ‘heat decarbonisation zones’, strategies for reducing building emissions in each zone, and potential heat network zones
- Prioritising specific areas within East Dunbartonshire to address local and national goals
The LHEES consultation period will run from Tuesday 1 October to Tuesday 29 October 2024, inviting participants to review the proposals and complete a brief online survey.
Additionally, there will be an opportunity to share your views at an online consultation event scheduled for Wednesday 23 October 2024, from 2 pm to 4 pm. To participate in this event, kindly register your interest here.
Councillor Gordan Low, leader of the council, asserted, “We urge all residents and businesses in East Dunbartonshire to engage in the LHEES consultation process. We also welcome input from landlords and housing associations.
“It is crucial that this strategy is feasible and aligns with both our local priorities and the national agenda, so we encourage you to review the proposals carefully, complete the survey, or sign up for our online event later this month to interact with council representatives, ask questions, and share your perspectives.”
