New Director Appointed by Council

Cheshire East Council has recently announced the appointment of a new Executive Director for Place, Phil Cresswell, who will officially take over the role at the beginning of December. In his new position, Cresswell will be responsible for overseeing a range of crucial services, including highways, waste and recycling, planning, transport, parking, and economic development.

Expressing his enthusiasm for his new role, Cresswell stated, “Cheshire East is a remarkable place with immense potential. I am eager to join the council and collaborate with staff, councillors, and partners to make a tangible difference for residents and businesses in the borough. The council provides excellent services and has several significant infrastructure projects and investment opportunities in the pipeline. I also understand the financial pressures faced by local authorities like ours and recognise the need for radical change in the coming years. This presents an excellent opportunity to innovate and harness the economic potential of the borough to enhance outcomes for Cheshire East residents, communities, businesses, and the environment.”

With a wealth of experience under his belt, Cresswell has previously served as the Executive Director for Regeneration, Housing, and Environmental Services at the London Borough of Hounslow, as well as the Director of Housing, Regeneration, and Growth at Stoke-on-Trent City Council. Cheshire East Council’s Chief Executive, Rob Polkinghorne, also extended a warm welcome to Cresswell, expressing anticipation for their collaboration as he spearheads the council’s place-based services.

Polkinghorne remarked, “I am pleased to welcome Phil to Cheshire East and am excited to work alongside him as he leads the council’s place-based services. With his extensive experience as a senior leader, Phil joins us at a pivotal moment for the organisation as we embark on an ambitious programme of whole-organisation transformation and improvement.”
