New electric vans shake up Aston Barclay’s LCV index
The latest Aston Barclay LCV desirability index for September has just been released, with an exciting development – an electric van has taken the top spot for the first time!
The Ford E-Transit has claimed the number one position on the list, making history in the process. Additionally, the Maxus eDeliver 5 has made its debut on the list, coming in at eighth place. This marks a significant milestone as electric vans make their presence felt in the desirability index.
Nick Thompson, the Chief Customer Officer at Aston Barclay, noted that electric LCVs are now offering great value for operators, especially after experiencing a drop in values. He highlighted that for operators working in lower-mileage, back-to-base environments, electric vans are becoming an increasingly attractive option.
The September LCV desirability index also showcased Ford’s dominance, with five LCVs – including four vans and one pickup – making it to the top of the list. Medium and large panel vans were the highlights of the list, making up the majority of the table. The Toyota Hilux secured the second spot, emerging as the highest-rated model among pickups.

The variety in the used LCV stock mix highlights models that are desirable due to their current market value, rather than just following trends for the latest makes and models. LCV prices have now returned to pre-Covid levels, encouraging SMEs to either upgrade their current vehicles or expand their fleet with additional used LCVs.
Thompson expressed his observations on the upbeat nature of the used LCV market during the typically quiet summer months. He stated that there is a significant increase in confidence in the market, with strong competition leading to a high demand for LCVs. Many buyers are quickly acquiring vehicles in large volumes, indicating a robust market performance.
Aston Barclay’s monthly desirability index is calculated based on three key metrics – web views before sale, the number of physical and online sale bids, and the percentage of sale price achieved compared to the CAP average.
