Kirkcaldy Foodbank gets new home in Council find.

Fife Council has extended a helping hand to Kirkcaldy Foodbank by offering them a new home at the Park Road Centre in the town. This move comes after the foodbank received notice to vacate its current location at Viewforth Church. Despite supporters attempting to secure the church hall for continued rent, the bid was unsuccessful, prompting Fife Council to step in and find a new space for the charity.

Kirkcaldy Foodbank, run entirely by volunteers, distributes approximately 1,300 food parcels each month and has been operating out of Viewforth for the past decade. Councillor Ian Cameron, convener of the Kirkcaldy Area Committee, expressed his delight at the successful relocation, stating, “I’m delighted we’ve been able to offer the Park Road Centre to the foodbank as its new home and that the Trustees have accepted this.”

He continued, “We think this is a good fit for the foodbank as we also have some of our welfare staff located there as well as a clothing bank.” Councillor Cameron emphasised the ongoing need for the services provided by Kirkcaldy Foodbank amidst the prevailing cost-of-living crisis and commended the charity for its invaluable work in the community.

“As a council, ensuring that individuals still grappling with the impact of the cost-of-living crisis receive the necessary support remains a top priority. I’m pleased that we’ve been able to secure new premises for Kirkcaldy Foodbank before they are forced to vacate their current location,” he added.

Preparations are already underway to ready the space at Park Road Centre for the foodbank’s relocation before the looming deadline of 14th October. This quick action ensures that the vital services provided by Kirkcaldy Foodbank can continue seamlessly without any disruption.

Expressing her gratitude for the council’s continuous support, Angela Campbell, a volunteer at Kirkcaldy Foodbank, shared, “We are very grateful for all the support the council have given over many years and especially at this critical time. We’re extremely delighted to be able to be co-located with other services to allow us to broaden our work with the most vulnerable in the community.”
