Isle of Man to Upgrade EV Charging Network
Evolt Charging has teamed up with Manx Utilities to revolutionize the electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure on the picturesque Isle of Man.
The exciting upgrade to the Isle of Man’s public charging network will bring in new, high-speed chargers that will be meticulously managed by the innovative team at Evolt Charging.
Existing single-phase 7kW charge points will undergo a remarkable transformation, being upgraded to state-of-the-art three-phase 22kW units wherever feasible. This enhancement will not only allow for speedier vehicle charging but also cater more efficiently to the rising number of EVs on the roads. The new chargers will feature load balancing capabilities, adapting to the different charging speeds of various vehicles.
The enhanced Evolt infrastructure will boast a range of user-friendly features, including various charging options for added convenience. Users can opt for the hassle-free Pay-As-You-Go via Web-Pay method, utilise RFIID card access for seamless contactless payments at DC Rapid chargers, or opt for app-based charging through a cutting-edge dedicated App. Furthermore, Evolt will have the ability to monitor the network’s performance in real-time, ensuring quick fault resolution.
In a statement, John Wannenburgh MHK, the Chair of Manx Utilities, expressed the utility company’s dedication to providing a robust and reliable EV charging network that is geared towards meeting the future needs of the Isle of Man. Wannenburgh highlighted the importance of having ample charging points across the island to support the growing community of EV drivers and contribute towards a more sustainable and efficient future for all.
Wannenburgh further emphasised the availability of support for customers, with a round-the-clock free-phone service set to be operational from November onwards to assist users with any charging-related queries or issues.
Adding to the discussion, Anne Buckingham, the Managing Director of Evolt Charging, underscored the significance of upgrading the charging infrastructure with future-proof technology and enhanced service support from a company committed to long-term sustainability. Buckingham believes that this upgrade will lead to a smarter, faster, and more reliable charging experience for all EV drivers on the Isle of Man.
Expressing excitement about the collaboration with Manx Utilities, Buckingham also hinted at plans for further expansion of the infrastructure in the future, showing a long-term commitment to supporting the transition to electric vehicles.
The commencement of work on the network is scheduled to begin in October, with initial installations taking place at key locations such as Manx Utilities’ Ballacottier HQ, the Comis Hotel, and Loch Promenade. Existing rapid chargers at the Sea Terminal and Tesco stores in Peel, Port Erin, and Ramsey will not be replaced but will be seamlessly integrated into the new platform.
Exciting times lie ahead for EV drivers on the Isle of Man, with Evolt Charging and Manx Utilities joining forces to create a cutting-edge charging infrastructure that is designed to cater to the growing needs of the EV community while shaping a more sustainable future for the island.
