Global companies join forces for green energy.

Joining forces with the Climate Group, major international companies such as Google, AstraZeneca, Iron Mountain Data Centers, Shree Cement, AirTrunk, and Vodafone UK are spearheading a campaign to promote carbon-free electricity and combat the pressing issue of carbon emissions.
The demand for electricity has surged dramatically since 2000, and if we want to see a reduction in carbon emissions, we need to ensure that clean electricity not only meets but exceeds this rising demand. The Climate Group is advocating for 24/7 carbon-free electricity (CFE) as an effective solution for businesses looking to accelerate the decarbonization of global electricity grids. This transition towards CFE not only contributes to lowering carbon footprints but also bolsters energy security, boosts economic competitiveness, and stimulates job growth.
Business leaders are being urged to embark on their journey towards 24/7 CFE by aligning their electricity needs with carbon-free sources every hour, every day, from the same grid. Helen Clarkson, Chief Executive Officer of Climate Group, emphasised the importance of this shift, stating, ‘We are calling on ambitious business leaders to take a step further in reducing carbon emissions by committing to carbon-free electricity round the clock. Through this initiative, the Founding Partners of the 24/7 Carbon-Free Coalition, along with other corporations adopting this approach, will play a significant role in expediting the deployment of renewables, advancing battery and carbon-free technologies, and eliminating the reliance on backup fossil fuels.’
The founding companies will play a crucial role in shaping the 24/7 CFE campaign during its initial phase, paving the way for a wider rollout in 2025.
