Blairgowrie community shapes new housing plans
Perth-based homebuilder Persimmon North Scotland has recently put forward fresh proposals to Perth and Kinross Council for the construction of 152 high-quality, energy-efficient new homes in Blairgowrie. The site allocated for housing will cater to a variety of housing needs, ranging from two-bedroom to five-bedroom homes, with a primary focus on energy efficiency to meet local market demands.
Responding to feedback from local residents, the original plan for 171 homes has been revised down to 152 to address concerns about reducing density within the development. Alterations to the site layout have been made to increase spacing between new and existing homes, alongside extended landscaped corridors along the site’s boundaries. Additionally, the proposal includes ample open public spaces, and detailed Flood Risk Assessment and Drainage Strategy Reports confirm the positive impact on the area’s flood resilience.
The Dunkeld Road site, already earmarked for housing in the Council’s Local Development Plan, has obtained planning permission in principle. During the development plan process, considerations were made about the impact on local services, including NHS capacity, with no obstacles found to delivering much-needed housing in the area.
As part of the investment in Blairgowrie, Persimmon plans to contribute over £800,000 to support local schools. The development is also projected to create nearly 100 local construction jobs annually, with an additional 70 jobs in the local supply chain.
Robert Patrick, Persimmon North Scotland’s land director, expressed, “We’ve taken into account feedback from local residents and integrated it into our revised proposals with a reduced number of homes. Addressing concerns about flooding, our plans include a comprehensive drainage system to enhance the area’s flood resilience.
“In addition to providing much-needed affordable housing options for local families, the development will bring significant investment to support the community. We are committed to continued collaboration with local residents as we progress with these proposals.”
