Partnership boosting UK prosperity | News from the Public Sector
Belfast City Council has confirmed that the collaborative effort of organisations from the public, private, and third sectors is driving prosperity in the region of Belfast and across Northern Ireland as a whole.
This positive development is a result of the Belfast City and Region Place Partnership, which brings together stakeholders from different sectors to promote sustainable development and placemaking. Understanding the financial challenges faced by developments in Northern Ireland, the partnership recognises that social and economic growth can be fuelled by attracting private investments.
John Walsh, Chief Executive of Belfast City Council, emphasised the importance of the Belfast Agenda, which outlines the city’s ambitions and closely aligns with the objectives of the Programme for Government. The focus is on fostering inclusive, sustainable growth through investments in quality housing, placemaking, connectivity, and social infrastructure.
Walsh stated, “The Belfast City & Region Place Partnership will continue to facilitate and promote collaboration between local authorities, government agencies, and businesses. By aligning efforts and resources towards these shared goals, the partnership is establishing a more coordinated approach to development that benefits all stakeholders. Through encouraging cooperation and pooling resources, we are creating vibrant, inclusive spaces that support economic growth, community well-being, and environmental sustainability.”
The partnership’s approach ensures that the aims outlined in the Programme for Government by Northern Ireland’s Economy Minister Conor Murphy will be achieved, leading to the creation of new jobs, increased productivity, and the promotion of regional balance.
Joe O’Neill, Chair of the Belfast City and Region Place Partnership, also highlighted the significance of the recent agreement on the Programme for Government in Northern Ireland. He expressed the crucial role the partnership plays in realizing these ambitions and stressed the importance of collaboration across sectors to benefit all communities in the face of today’s economic challenges.
O’Neill added, “We must acknowledge the reality of our financial landscape. Public sector finances are not just strained; they’re severely depleted after years of budget cuts and rising service demands. Attracting additional investments from the private sector is not just a welcomed opportunity, it’s essential for progress.”
With the commitment and dedication of the stakeholders involved, the Belfast City and Region Place Partnership is poised to make a significant impact on the development and prosperity of Northern Ireland. By working together towards common goals, the partnership is paving the way for a more sustainable and inclusive future for all.
