Scotland Excel launches £1.5bn flagship construction contract.

Scotland Excel recently launched its £1.5 billion New Build Residential Construction Framework at its first-ever Estates Management Expo. The event brought together over 180 delegates from the public sector to engage with industry experts in construction, professional services, and property maintenance.

Hugh Carr, the director of strategic procurement at Scotland Excel, announced the successful conclusion of the tender process for the new build framework. He highlighted that all 18 contractors selected are Scottish, underscoring the commitment to supporting local businesses. The keynote speaker at the event was Morag Angus, the Scottish Government’s Head of Property and Construction.

Speaking about the significance of the event, Hugh Carr stated, “This was the first time Scotland Excel prioritised construction procurement at an event, focusing on the entire construction cycle and the role of innovation in enhancing the built environment. The launch of our New Build Residential Construction Framework marks a significant milestone in our construction portfolio.”

The conference at the event explored key themes in the construction journey, including design, build, maintain, and improve. Notable speakers at the conference included Professor Sean Smith from the University of Edinburgh and Christine Gaiger, a respected architect and former president of the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland (RIAS).

Delegates also had the opportunity to interact with Scotland Excel’s framework suppliers in the exhibition zone, fostering discussions on construction practices and exploring innovative approaches to working in the industry.

Julie Welsh, the chief executive of Scotland Excel, expressed her delight at hosting leading experts in construction and property maintenance. She emphasised the importance of collaboration, sharing best practices, and embracing new ways of working to drive real change in the industry.

Welsh also highlighted the launch of the second generation New Build Residential Construction Framework as a significant addition to the organization’s construction portfolio. This framework aims to assist public bodies in engaging suppliers throughout the construction cycle.

Morag Angus, the head of property and construction at the Scottish Government, shared her perspective on the challenges facing the industry. She stressed the importance of delivering quality outputs that contribute to positive outcomes for the people of Scotland. Angus highlighted the significance of efficient processes and collaboration among experienced professionals in achieving these goals.

Overall, the Scotland Excel Estates Management Expo served as a platform for industry professionals to come together, exchange ideas, and explore innovative solutions to drive the construction sector forward.
