Burnt Mills Tyres marks 30th year with new electric vans.

Burnt Mills Tyres, based in Essex, is celebrating its 30th anniversary by embracing a new era of sustainability with the introduction of its first fully electric vehicles. This milestone marks a significant step towards reducing carbon emissions and fostering a greener future for the company.

Three brand new Renault Trucks E-Tech Master L2H2 panel vans have been incorporated into the Burnt Mills Tyres fleet to enhance their on-site and roadside tyre fitting services. These electric vans are set to cover between 50 and 100 miles per day, catering to local trips in and out of the depot in Basildon where the vehicles will be conveniently recharged.

Will Bray, the managing director of Burnt Mills Tyres, expressed his confidence in Renault Trucks, citing their unmatched reliability and cost-effectiveness as key factors in the decision-making process. The longstanding partnership with the sales team at Norfolk Truck and Van, particularly with Peter Thirkettle, solidified the company’s trust in Renault Trucks as their preferred manufacturer.

The Renault Trucks E-Tech Master is equipped with a 52kWh lithium-ion battery, boasting a claimed real-life range of up to 120 miles on a single charge. In a bid to enhance efficiency, the vehicles have also been configured with a split battery charging system to power the on-board tyre fitting machines.

In a nod to their commitment to sustainability, the new E-Tech Masters showcase Burnt Mills Tyres’ refreshed ‘Burnie the Hedgehog’ logo, specially designed to commemorate the company’s 30th anniversary. Additionally, a sticker adorns the vehicles with a bold declaration: ‘No diesel engines left in this vehicle overnight’, underscoring the company’s transition to electric vehicles and dedication to environmental preservation.

This significant investment in electric vehicles represents a pivotal move in Burnt Mills Tyres’ sustainability journey, signalling a firm commitment to reducing their carbon footprint and embracing eco-friendly practices. Bray envisions a future where the entire fleet will be electrified, emphasising the company’s determination to contribute positively towards a cleaner and more sustainable environment.

As Bray aptly summarised, “Even as a small company, this venture has inspired us to operate more efficiently and embrace sustainability. With these initial EVs, we are entering an exciting phase. I am optimistic about our fleet’s future expansion and our transition towards becoming 100% electric.”
