Walsall unveils new public charge points!

Breaking News: Walsall Installs First Public Electric Vehicle Charge Points

Walsall has taken a giant leap towards a greener future with the installation of its first public electric vehicle charge points across the borough. The move is part of a comprehensive strategy to make electric vehicles more accessible and encourage sustainable transport options.

The initial charge points were activated last month, marking the beginning of a new era for Walsall residents. These charge points are now operational at two locations, allowing the public to utilize them conveniently.

With the collaboration of Black Country Transport and Wenea, Walsall Council will further expand this initiative by setting up an additional 33 charge points throughout the borough in the upcoming months. These 7.4kW charge points are funded by the Office of Zero Emission Vehicles and Wenea West Midlands Limited, aiming to support individuals who lack access to private driveways in transitioning to electric vehicles.

Councillor Adrian Andrew, Associate Leader for Economic Growth and Regeneration at Walsall Council, expressed his enthusiasm by stating, “It’s great to see the first EV charge points up and running, and I hope it makes switching to an electric vehicle easier and more accessible for local people. We are committed to becoming a net zero carbon authority by 2041, so creating the infrastructure to support this aim is really important. The installation of these EV charge points complements the work we’ve already done to improve active travel routes across the borough and is another step towards cleaner air for Walsall.”

Gustavo Prince, Head of Wenea UK, shared his excitement by saying, “We are delighted to see our first residential chargers commissioned in Walsall through our partnership with Black Country Transport. We are poised to accelerate our deployment in Walsall and the West Midlands, with the goal of triggering the wider adoption of electric vehicles in the region in the coming months and years.”

Join us in celebrating this green milestone as Walsall paves the way towards a sustainable and environmentally friendly future. Let’s all do our part in reducing carbon emissions and embracing cleaner transportation options for a healthier planet.
