SFHA celebrates ‘homes for life’ at 49th AGM.
The Scottish Federation of Housing Associations (SFHA) celebrated its 49th Annual General Meeting yesterday, where Grampian’s Craig Stirrat and Melville’s Caron Quinn were elected to its board.
Against the backdrop of Scottish Housing Day, the AGM was centered around the theme of creating ‘homes for life’ – a concept that resonates with us all.
The event featured a keynote presentation from Nicola McEwen, professor of public policy and governance at the University of Glasgow, who shared her expertise on devolution and inter-institutional relations.
The virtual gathering, held on Wednesday 18th September, also highlighted the support provided by SFHA to its members during 2023/24.
Some notable achievements mentioned at the AGM include:
- Launching the “It’s Your Life’s Opportunities” report at Westminster, showcasing how members are aiding tenants in navigating the cost-of-living crisis.
- Rolling out the “Housing at Scotland’s Heart” campaign, highlighting the daily efforts of housing associations and co-operatives.
- Distributing around £8 million of Scottish Government funding to assist members in supporting tenants in need.
- Aiding in the improvement of the Net Zero Heat Fund.

The AGM also saw the introduction of SFHA’s new board directors.
Craig Stirrat of Grampian Housing Association will represent the Other Cities constituency, while Caron Quinn from Melville Housing Association will represent Other Urban Areas. Douglas Mackie of West Highland Housing Association was re-elected to represent the Rural and Islands constituency for another term.
The board elections for 2024-25 were conducted following SFHA’s Articles of Association and Election Policy.
Expressing her gratitude, SFHA chief executive Sally Thomas said: “On behalf of SFHA, I extend my thanks to all staff, member representatives, and our Board for their contributions highlighted during our AGM.
“It is due to their skills, knowledge, and expertise that SFHA looks forward to its 50th anniversary next year in a strong position to continue supporting Scotland’s housing associations and co-operatives.
“I also want to acknowledge our departing Board directors, David Lappin and Jackie McIntosh, for their outstanding contributions to SFHA. Congratulations to Craig Stirrat and Caron Quinn on their election to the Board.
“Given the ongoing cost-of-living crisis and the significant challenges facing our housing associations, it is crucial that the sector continues to collaborate and share best practices to deliver for Scotland’s social tenants and communities. Our members provide homes for life, and it is through their hard work that Scotland can continue to support people in living well and thriving in good social homes.”
