North Gate Project Nominated for RIAS Doolan Prize

The North Gate Social Housing project by Page\Park Architects has been recognized as one of the top contenders for Scotland’s coveted building of the year award. The Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland’s Andrew Doolan Best Building in Scotland Award showcases the best of contemporary Scottish architecture, with a focus on the skilful re-use of existing buildings.

This year’s shortlist includes a diverse range of projects that highlight the innovative and creative approach of Scottish architects. From the restoration of a hillside farmstead in Aberdeenshire to the transformation of a social housing scheme in Glasgow, each project demonstrates a commitment to excellence and sustainability.

The North Gate Social Housing development in Glasgow is designed to meet the needs of older residents, providing them with a comfortable and independent living environment. With 31 apartments and shared facilities, this project contributes to the city’s wider regeneration programme and enhances the quality of life for its residents.

Other projects on the shortlist include the refurbishment of the iconic Burrell Collection in Glasgow, the extension of the Fruitmarket Gallery in Edinburgh, and the construction of the University of Aberdeen Science and Teaching Hub. Each project has been praised for its architectural vision, usability, and contribution to the local community.

The RIAS Andrew Doolan Best Building in Scotland Award recognises the best architectural projects in Scotland each year, with a focus on integrity, sustainability, and innovation. The award, named in memory of architect Andy Doolan, continues to celebrate the rich architectural heritage of Scotland and showcase it to a global audience.

The winner of the 2024 RIAS Andrew Doolan Best Building in Scotland Award will be revealed on 22 November. With a distinguished jury and a diverse range of projects to choose from, this year’s award promises to highlight the very best of Scottish architecture and design.
