Exciting news from Odisha, India as government financiers REC Limited have pledged their support for a groundbreaking green ammonia project. This initiative, led by hydrogen developer Hygenco, has secured a staggering $280 million (£211 million) in funding to kickstart the ambitious project in Gopalpur, Odisha, located in Eastern India.
Hygenco, at the forefront of innovation in sustainable energy, aims to raise a whopping $2.5 billion (£1.8 billion) to drive green hydrogen and green ammonia projects throughout India in the coming years. Their commitment to revolutionising the energy sector is evident through the successful commissioning of India’s maiden commercial green hydrogen plant in Hisar, Haryana, situated in North India.
Notably, in 2022, Hygenco made history by striking India’s inaugural commercial long-term offtake agreement for green hydrogen, demonstrating their dedication to pioneering eco-friendly solutions. Amit Bansal, the Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Hygenco, expressed his enthusiasm, stating: ‘We are dedicated to ensuring energy security and aligning with the Indian government’s vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India). Our projects are designed to mitigate carbon emissions and pave the way for a sustainable future.’
