Calvay’s £5m Insulation Project Launched by Procast

Procast Group Initiates £5 Million Insulation Project to Enhance Energy Efficiency for Calvay Housing Association

Hamilton-based principal contractor, Procast Group, has officially kicked off a major £5 million project aimed at installing external wall insulation across 267 flats managed by Calvay Housing Association. The initiative, set in Barlanark in the East End of Glasgow, is expected to significantly boost the energy efficiency of these homes, providing residents with warmer living environments and reduced fuel bills. Originally constructed in 1952, the Calvay homes are set to receive a contemporary makeover, enhancing the local streetscape.

The project, which covers 36 flatted blocks, is scheduled to reach completion by Summer 2025, with a dedicated workforce of over 60 individuals working tirelessly on the installation process. Calvay Housing Association is dedicated to enhancing the sustainability of homes within its property portfolio, with a focus on improving living conditions for tenants and reducing its environmental impact.

This substantial investment from the association has been matched by the Scottish Government through its Scottish Net Zero Heat Fund (SNZHF), demonstrating a shared commitment to eco-friendly initiatives. According to the Energy Savings Trust (EST), external wall insulation can result in households saving up to £410 annually on energy expenses.

Procast Group has teamed up with Brown + Wallace, a local business consultancy firm tasked with overseeing the project’s management. Derek Innes, the owner of Procast Group, expressed his excitement for the project, highlighting the long-term benefits associated with external wall insulation installations.

He stated, “Working with organisations that recognise the lasting advantages of External Wall Insulation is always motivating. As the Scottish Government’s net-zero target approaches, we are witnessing an increase in projects like this coming to life and the positive impact it can have in reducing carbon emissions and, of course, keeping tenants warm in their homes is remarkable.

“The collaboration with Calvay Housing Association will have a transformative effect on hundreds of tenants throughout Glasgow, allowing them to enjoy greater comfort within their own homes. We are proud to be involved in a project that not only benefits people directly but also aligns closely with Scotland’s net-zero objectives.”

Jim Gourlay, chair of Calvay Housing Association, emphasised the significance of the project for the local community, underscoring the association’s commitment to providing high-quality housing for residents while focusing on sustainability and future-proofing properties.

He commented, “It is fantastic to witness the commencement of works to enhance 267 homes in our Barlanark community. Calvay’s core mission revolves around delivering top-notch homes for local residents, and investing in external wall insulation will not only make properties more sustainable but also future-proof them against environmental challenges.

“Supported by the Scottish Government’s Scottish Net Zero Heat Fund, we are delighted to partner with Procast Group, a seasoned expert in delivering exceptional housing improvement projects. This initiative exemplifies the power of collaboration between housing associations, governmental bodies, and industry leaders in promoting sustainable and energy-efficient housing solutions in Scotland.”
