Toyota & BMW to fuel hydrogen sector.

Exciting news is unfolding in the automotive industry, as Toyota Motor Corporation and the BMW Group announce a deepening of their collaboration in the hydrogen sector. This partnership aims to revolutionise the landscape of fuel cell passenger cars and enhance critical infrastructure for a sustainable future.

Back in 2011, Toyota and BMW joined forces with a shared vision of advancing environmental technology, particularly in the realms of fuel cells and high-performance sports cars. Fast forward to the present, the two automotive giants are taking their partnership to new heights by co-developing a cutting-edge third generation fuel cell system that will power a wide array of fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs) from both brands.

Koji Sato, President of Toyota, expressed his enthusiasm for the next phase of collaboration with BMW, stating, ‘We are delighted that the alliance between BMW and Toyota has evolved to a new level. Through our longstanding partnership, we have reaffirmed our mutual dedication to superior automotive craftsmanship, as well as our commitment to technological innovation and a flexible approach to achieving carbon neutrality.’

He continued, ‘Building on these shared principles, we are poised to deepen our cooperation, encompassing initiatives such as the joint development of state-of-the-art fuel cell systems and the expansion of essential infrastructure, all geared towards ushering in the era of a hydrogen-based society. Working hand in hand with BMW and our industry partners, we are determined to forge a future where hydrogen energy plays a pivotal role in sustaining our communities.’

Meanwhile, BMW has set its sights on introducing its inaugural mass-produced FCEV to the market by 2028, marking a significant milestone in the brand’s commitment to eco-friendly mobility solutions.
